ABOUT NATIONAL RAIL

What is the National Rail network?

National Rail - Twenty-six Companies: One Network

Great Britain's Train Operating Companies work together to make it easy to travel throughout the National Rail network. This Internet site is a guide to using the network.

Easy to Buy Tickets

Train Companies offer a wide range of rail tickets from many stations, telesales offices, National Rail-appointed travel agents and through the Internet on some sites. Smaller stations usually offer tickets appropriate to journeys from those stations.

The Internet

In addition to the National Rail Enquiries web site, many Train Companies have their own Internet sites. You can buy rail tickets from some sites.

Train Companies

Many Train Companies also provide telephone information lines. See the Train Operating Companies details on this site.

Stations with Ticket Offices

You can get rail information at staffed station ticket offices throughout the rail network.

National Rail-appointed Travel Agents

National Rail-appointed travel agents are conveniently located throughout Great Britain, often in main streets, and in towns without stations.

National Rail Timetable

This includes comprehensive information about National Rail services. You can buy a copy at selected W.H.Smiths bookshops.

Teletext

BBC Ceefax (index page 430) tells you how trains are running.

Choosing your Ticket

Just tell us where and when you want to travel and we will help you to select the ticket that best meets your needs. Information on ticket types is available on this site, and you can see information about Railcards on the Railcards website.

If you are unsure about which ticket is best for your journey, phone National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 (NOTE: Calls may be recorded for quality purposes) or other rail information services.
