Description

As part of the Great North Rail Project, Network Rail are upgrading the railway between Preston and Blackpool.

Phase 1 of these works has been completed and trains can run again between Preston and Blackpool South.

Until Sunday 15 April, the line is closed between Kirkham & Wesham and Blackpool North.

Replacement buses will continue to run between Preston and Blackpool North.

Trains between Preston and Blackpool South are not affected by this engineering work.

Ticket acceptance:

All replacement buses are operated by Northern, however Virgin Trains customers with valid tickets will be accepted on these buses between Preston and Blackpool North.

Bicycles:

Project Information:

Network Rail are upgrading the railway between Preston and Blackpool as part of a multi-billion pound investment in the north to deliver cleaner, quieter and more reliable journeys in 2018.

The 17 mile route between Preston and Blackpool North will be fully electrified paving the way for better trains with more seats. We’re also improving the track layout and modernising signalling equipment to reduce delays and improve performance.
