Changes to train times

 

Virgin Trains East Coast services during Christmas and New Year 2017/18

Please find below a day-by-day summary of the services that Virgin Trains East Coast will be running over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holiday period.

Saturday 23 December

 

Normal timetable. However, the stops at York, Darlington and Newcastle on the 10:00 and 14:00 from London Kings Cross to Aberdeen, and the 12:00 from London Kings Cross to Inverness, will only be to pick up customers.

Sunday 24 December

 

As in previous years, services will finish earlier than a normal Sunday so please check.

The last departures from London Kings Cross are 18:00 to Edinburgh, 19:00 to Newcastle, and 20:05 to Leeds. The last services to London Kings Cross depart at 16:20 from Edinburgh, 17:49 from Newcastle and 19:16 from Leeds.

Please note the stops at York, Darlington, Newcastle, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Edinburgh and Haymarket on the 10:00 and 14:00 from London Kings Cross to Aberdeen, and 12:00 from London Kings Cross to Inverness, will only be for picking up customers.

Wednesday 27 December

 

Amended timetable with the start of service commencing later than normal.

Some Newcastle services are extended to/start back from Edinburgh and some Leeds services will not run.

On the 07:52 and 09:52 services from Aberdeen to London Kings Cross and the 07:55 from Inverness to London Kings Cross, the stops at Newcastle, Darlington and York will be for customers to get off the train only.

On the 10:00, 14:00 and 16:00 services from London Kings Cross to Aberdeen, and 12:00 to Inverness, stops at York, Darlington and Newcastle will only be to pick up customers.

The 05:40 from Sunderland to London Kings Cross will start from Newcastle at 05:59.

The 06:15 from Doncaster to Edinburgh will start from York at 06:39.

The 07:30 from Lincoln to London Kings Cross will start from Newark North Gate at 07:57.

The 07:00 from Hull to London Kings Cross will start from Doncaster at 07:57.

Saturday 30 December

 

Normal timetable. However, the stops at York, Darlington and Newcastle on the 10:00 and 14:00 from London Kings Cross to Aberdeen, and the 12:00 from London Kings Cross to Inverness, will only be to pick up customers.

Sunday 31 December

 

Services will finish earlier than normal.

The last departures from London Kings Cross are 19:00 to Edinburgh, 20:00 to Newcastle, and 20:35 to Leeds.

The last services to London Kings Cross will depart at 16:20 from Edinburgh, 17:49 from Newcastle and 19:16 from Leeds.

16:30 London Kings Cross to Glasgow Central service will terminate at Edinburgh.

Monday 1 January 2018

 

Morning services will start later than normal.

An amended timetable will be in place with some services to and from Newcastle extended to Edinburgh. Leeds services will be reduced to run hourly.

Services that normally run to and from Aberdeen, Inverness and Glasgow will start and terminate at Edinburgh. Please note that no ScotRail services will be available all day.

The 20:00 from London Kings Cross to Sunderland will terminate at Newcastle.

Tuesday 2 January

 

Because of engineering work:

06.50 Glasgow Central to London Kings Cross will start from Edinburgh at 08:00.

Services to and from Inverness will take a diversionary route between Edinburgh and Perth and will not call at Falkirk Grahamston, Stirling or Gleneagles. A rail replacement coach service will be provided between Edinburgh, Falkirk, Stirling, Gleneagles and Perth. In addition the services to and from Stirling will start and terminate at Edinburgh.
