Engineering work is taking place between Motherwell and Glasgow Central, closing all lines.

Caledonian Sleeper:

The 23:53 London Euston to Glasgow Central service (departing London Euston on Friday 22 June) will be diverted, and will arrive at Glasgow Central around 4 minutes later than usual.


Buses replace trains between Motherwell and Glasgow Central.


It is not yet known how ScotRail are affected by this engineering work.

TransPennine Express:


Trains from Glasgow Central and Manchester Airport will depart 10 minutes EARLIER than normal. Trains from Manchester Airport to Glasgow Central will be re-timed to arrive 10 minutes LATER than normal.


Trains will operate as advertised.

Virgin Trains:

Services will be diverted between Motherwell and Glasgow Central to run via Mount Florida. Services will be amended to start / terminate slightly earlier / later than usual.

Virgin Trains East Coast:

Trains will not run between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central.

Passengers to / from Motherwell -  Buses will operate between Edinburgh and Motherwell.

Passengers to and from Glasgow Central - Passengers should use ScotRail services between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh.

Project Information:

The Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) is a comprehensive package of improvements to Scotland's railway infrastructure.

A Scottish Government priority, the £742m EGIP is being delivered by Network Rail and includes modernisation and upgrades to key junctions and infrastructure as well as widespread electrification of the Scottish rail network, including the main line between Edinburgh and Glasgow and to Stirling and Dunblane.
