South Western Railway between London Victoria / Brighton and Southampton Central

TOC(s) affected
South Western Railway;
Description

All lines between Fareham and Southampton Central have been reopened following a fault with the signalling system between the stations.

Train services running through these stations may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 02:00.

Great Western Railway services between Fareham and Southampton Central have now finished for the evening.

Additional information:
There were reports of multiple track circuit failures in the Netley area, meaning that trains were unable to run in the area. A track circuit is the method that our signallers use in order to detect the presence of trains on the track.

Trains are now able to run in both directions, however, there are still ongoing issues affecting the signals which will cause delays. This is because on both lines trains are being required to stop at affected signals and seek verbal permission from the signaller to proceed.
