Remembrance Weekend 2018

If you are travelling during Remembrance weekend or to a specific Armistice event on Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 November, your journey may be affected by planned engineering work.
 
Major engineering work is taking place in the Bristol area, between Bedford and Leicester and on the East Coast Main Line. Information on all other line closures is available on our future engineering works page.

Below is a summary of how each train operating company will be affected by engineering work. Please choose the company you will be travelling with from the list:
 
 

c2c

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting c2c services on Saturday 10 November.

On Sunday, platforms 5 and 8 are closed at Stratford station. As a result of this, c2c services from Stratford towards London Liverpool Street will depart from platform 9 and services from Stratford towards Barking, Southend and Shoeburyness will depart from Platform 10.

Caledonian Sleeper

 

On Sunday, the 20:26 Inverness to London Euston service will be diverted via Aberdeen and Fife. A bus service will run between Aviemore and Dundee to connect with this train, calling at Kingussie, Newtonmore, Dalwhinnie, Blair Atholl, Pitlochry, Dunkeld & Birnham and Perth.

Chiltern Railways

 

There are no planned engineering works affecting Chiltern Railways services on Saturday 10 November.

On Sunday, the 23:30 and 00:05 (Monday) London Marylebone to Banbury services will be replaced by buses between Bicester North and Banbury.

CrossCountry

 

Saturday and Sunday

-The line between Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads will be closed. CrossCountry services will divert via an alternative route between these stations, extending the journey time by approximately 60 minutes. Buses will run from Cheltenham Spa to Bristol Parkway and also from Bristol Parkway to Bristol Temple Meads.

On Sunday, the line closure is extended to Taunton until 13:00 and buses will also be replacing trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton.

-Buses will replace trains between Nuneaton and Leicester.

-Buses will replace trains between Basingstoke and Southampton Central. CrossCountry services will be diverted via an alternative route between these stations on Saturday. On Sunday, the diverted services will not run between Southampton Central and Bournemouth. Alternative train services will be available between these stations.

Sunday only

-Buses will replace trains between Newton Abbot and Paignton until approximately 16:00.

East Midlands Trains

 

Saturday and Sunday 

-Buses will replace trains between Nottingham and Grantham. Trains that usually run between Nottingham and Skegness will run between Grantham and Skegness only.

-Trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Norwich will operate as two separate services. One between Liverpool Lime Street and Nottingham and one between Nottingham and Norwich. Services between Nottingham and Norwich will be diverted via an alternative route between Nottingham and Peterborough, not calling at Grantham. Passengers travelling to Grantham should use replacement bus services.

-Buses will replace trains between Bedford and Leicester. An amended train service will run between London St Pancras and Bedford and also between Leicester and Sheffield / Nottingham / Derby.

Sunday only

-The 08:38 Matlock to Nottingham service will terminate at Derby. A replacement bus will run from Derby to Nottingham.

-Buses will replace trains between Alsager and Crewe. Trains that usually run between Derby and Crewe will be amended to run between Derby and Alsager only.

 

Gatwick Express

 

There is no Gatwick Express service between Gatwick Airport and Brighton on Saturday 10 November.

Grand Central

 

On Saturday, services will be diverted via an alternative route between Peterborough and Doncaster, extending the journey time by up to 90 minutes.

The following services will not run:

08:51 Bradford Interchange to London Kings Cross.
10:48 London Kings Cross to Bradford Interchange.
11:27 London Kings Cross to Sunderland.
15:29 Sunderland to London Kings Cross.

 

There are no planned engineering works affecting Grand Central services on Sunday 11 November.

Great Northern

 

On Sunday 11 November, buses replace trains between Alexandra Palace and Stevenage via Hertford North.

Great Western Railway

 

Saturday and Sunday

All lines between Bristol Parkway / Severn Beach and Bristol Temple Meads will be closed and buses will replace trains between these stations. As a result of the line closure, and amended service will run between:

-London Paddington and Bristol

-Weymouth, Brighton, Westbury and Bristol Temple Meads

-Hereford, Great Malvern, Worcester and Bristol Parkway.

From 21:30 on Saturday until 10:10 on Sunday

Buses will replace trains between Reading and Basingstoke.

From 22:45 on Saturday and all day on Sunday

Trains will not call at Burnham or Taplow. Replacement buses will run between Slough and Burnham / Taplow on Saturday and between Burnham and Slough on Sunday as Taplow does not have a Sunday service.

From 22:00 on Saturday until 09:50 on Sunday

Buses will replace trains between Bedwyn / Newbury and Reading. Services between Penzance, Plymouth, Exeter and London that usually run via Newbury will be diverted via and alternative route.

Sunday until 16:00

Buses will replace trains between Newton Abbot and Paignton.

Sunday from 22:00

Trains will not call at Pangbourne. Replacement buses will run between Tilehurst and Pangbourne to connect with trains to / from London.

Greater Anglia

 

Saturday and Sunday

The line between Tottenham Hale and Cheshunt will be closed. Services that usually run via Tottenham Hale will be diverted to run via the Seven Sisters line. Stations on the Seven Sisters line are within walking distance of those on the Tottenham Hale line. Walking maps between these stations can be found here.

From 18:50 on Saturday and all day on Sunday

Buses will replace trains between Ipswich and Felixstowe.

From 00:30 until 07:45 on Sunday

Overnight engineering work is taking place in the Norwich area. As a result, the following services will be amended:

23:30 London Liverpool Street - Norwich (Saturday) will be replaced by a bus between Ipswich and Norwich.

07:00 Norwich to London Liverpool Street (Sunday) will be replaced by a bus between Norwich and Diss.

07:25 Norwich to Lowestoft and 07:36 Norwich to Great Yarmouth services will not run.

Heathrow Express

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting Heathrow Express services on Saturday 10 November.

On Sunday, the service will start later than usual. The first services will leave London Paddington at 06:10 and Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 at 06:18.

Hull Trains

 

On Saturday, a reduced service will run. Trains will be diverted via an alternative route between Doncaster and Peterborough, extending journey times by up to 90 minutes.

On Sunday, buses will replace trains between Hull and Selby.

Island Line

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting Island Line services on Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 November.

London North Eastern Railway

 

On Saturday, and until 10:00 on Sunday hourly service will run to / from London Kings Cross, with trains being diverted between Peterborough and Doncaster. Other LNER services will start from / terminate at Newark North Gate, Doncaster or York. A replacement bus will run between Peterborough, Grantham and Newark North Gate.

On Saturday, the 12:00 London Kings Cross to Inverness service will terminate at Perth. A replacement bus will run between Perth and Inverness. On Sunday, services between Perth and Inverness in both directions will be replaced by buses.

On Sunday, the 17:22 London Kings Cross to Hull service will be diverted to run between London Kings Cross and Leeds. A replacement bus will run from Doncaster to Hull, calling at Selby and Brough.

On Sunday, the 22:00 London Kings Cross to Newcastle service will terminate at Darlington. A replacement bus will run from Darlington to Newcastle, calling at Durham.

London Northwestern Railway

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting London Northwestern Railway services on Saturday 10 November.

On Sunday, buses will replace trains between Crewe and Stafford via Stoke-on-Trent.

Trains between Crewe and London Euston / Northampton that usually run via Stoke-on-Trent will be diverted via an alternative route between Crewe and Stafford. As a result of these diversions, trains will be retimed.

London Overground

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting London Overground services on Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 November. 

Merseyrail

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting Merseyrail services on Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 November. 

Northern

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting Northern services on Saturday 10 November.

On Sunday, buses will replace trains between Hull and Selby, and also between Hull and Goole. 

On Sunday until 11:00, Buses will replace trains between Halifax and Todmorden, and also between Halifax and Preston. From 11:00 until 16:20, buses will replace trains between Hebden Bridge and Preston

ScotRail

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting ScotRail services on Saturday 10 November.

Sunday

Buses will replace trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Anniesland. Services between Glasgow Queen Street and Oban / Fort William / Mallaig will be diverted to run on alternative routes, and will run to / from Glasgow Queen Street Low Level station.

Buses will replace trains between Mount Florida and Newton.

Buses will replace trains between Perth and Inverness.

The 1936 Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen Street and the 21:45 Glasgow Queen Street to Aberdeen services will be diverted via Fife. Replacement buses will run between Falkirk Grahamston and Dundee for intermediate stations.

On Sunday after 20:15, services between Glasgow Queen Street and Alloa will be replace by buses between Falkirk Grahamston and Stirling, and between Stirling and Alloa.

On Sunday after 20:35, services between Edinburgh and Dunblane / Perth will be replaced by buses between Falkirk Grahamston and Dunblane / Perth.

South Western Railway

 

Saturday and Sunday

Buses will replace trains between Basingstoke and Southampton Central.

Buses will replace trains between Romsey and Southampton Central. Trains that usually run between Salisbury and Romsey will be extended to Southampton Central via Chandlers Ford.

Sunday

Buses will replace trains between Yeovil Junction and Exeter St Davids.

Buses will replace trains between Hounslow and Windsor &Eton Riverside via Staines / Ascot via Egham / Woking via Chertsey.

Southeastern

 

Saturday and Sunday

Buses will replace trains between Faversham and Ramsgate.

Sunday

Buses will replace trains between Lewisham and Dartford via Bexleyheath.

Southern

 

On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 November, buses replace trains between Streatham and Sutton.

On Saturday 10 November, buses replace trains between Three Bridges and Brighton / Lewes.

On Sunday 11 November, buses replace trains between Polegate and Eastbourne / Hastings / Ore and also between Three Bridges and Horsham.

Stansted Express

 

Saturday and Sunday

The line between Tottenham Hale and Cheshunt will be closed. Services that usually run via Tottenham Hale will be diverted to run via the Seven Sisters line. TfL Rail

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting TfL Rail services on Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 November. 

Thameslink

 

On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 November, buses replace trains between Streatham and Sutton.

On Saturday 10 November, buses replace trains between Three Bridges and Brighton / Lewes.

On Sunday 11 November, buses replace trains between Three Bridges and Horsham.

TransPennine Express

 

Sunday 11 November

Until 11:00, buses replace trains between Huddersfield and Leeds.

Buses are also replacing trains between Hull and Selby.

The 21:24 Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle service will terminate at York and a replacement bus will run to Newcastle.

Transport for Wales

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting Transport for Wales services on Saturday 10 November.

On Sunday, buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Radyr / Ystrad Mynach / Rhymney until approximately 12:20.

There will be no bus service between Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Bay until approximately 12:30. Your ticket will be accepted on Cardiff Bus services to and from Cardiff Bay.

Virgin Trains

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting Virgin Trains services on Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 November.  

West Midlands Railway

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting West Midlands Railway services on Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 November.   

Assistance

Assistance is available if you need help with your journey. The train operator can arrange for someone to meet you at the station and accompany you to your train, provide a ramp for access to the train and meet you at your destination and take you to the exit or to meet your connection. If you are unable to use replacement bus services, please contact the train company who will arrange alternative transport for you if possible.
