Changes to the National Rail Timetable
The National Rail Timetable is changed in May and December each year.
The current timetable came into effect on Sunday 11 December 2011 and runs until Sunday 20 May 2012.

| Arriva Trains Wales |
Station rebuilding work is taking place at Cosford until March 2012, with buses running between the station and Albrighton to connect with trains. Also, station rebuilding work is taking place at Roman Bridge until March 2012, so trains between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Llandudno will not be calling. Early morning trains between Bridgend and Cardiff have been retimed, and there will be additional trains calling at Pyle at weekends. Some late-night trains between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly will be amended, with buses replacing some trains between Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester Piccadilly. The 12:00 Holyhead to Dublin ferry will be retimed to sail at 11:50 from the 6th January 2012. |

| Chiltern Railways |
The new 'Mainline' timetable has been introduced, with reduced journey times to and from London Marylebone. There will also be an increased number of carriages on some peak-time trains to/from London Marylebone via Banbury. Trains between London Marylebone and Amersham / Aylesbury will be retimed because of changes to the London Underground Metropolitan Line timetable, which shares part of the line. |

| East Coast |
On weekdays, the 15:00 London Kings Cross - Glasgow Central train will now terminate at Edinburgh, but the 15:30 London Kings Cross - Edinburgh train will now run to Glasgow Central. There are some minor alterations to a small number of other services. On Saturdays, more East Coast trains will call at Berwick-upon-Tweed, and some early morning trains have been slightly retimed. On Sundays, the 17:00 London Kings Cross - Glasgow Central train will not call at Dunbar and will now terminate at Edinburgh. However, the 16:30 London Kings Cross - Edinburgh train will now call at Dunbar, and will run to Glasgow Central. Late evening services will also have amended calling patterns at Retford, Morpeth and Alnmouth. |
| East Midlands Trains |
There will be an increased number of trains to and from Lincoln, including additional Sunday services to/from Newark. No other major alterations to timetables have been advised, but please use the Journey Planner to confirm your travel details. |

| First Capital Connect |
There will be an increased number of carriages on some peak-time 'Thameslink' trains between Bedford and Brighton. |
| First Great Western | From February 2012, additional carriages will be being introduced to peak-time trains on various routes across the First Great Western network. The line between Par and Newquay will now have a Sunday service during the winter months. The 17:15 London Paddington to Swansea (weekday) train will now be extended to Carmarthen, with the 17:45 train now terminating at Swansea. Several trains between London Paddington and Reading, and on Thames Valley branches (Henley-on-Thames / Marlow) will be retimed, with faster journey times to/from London. There are several other minor alterations to train times, and some more additional trains introduced. Please use the Journey Planner to confirm your travel details. |

| Grand Central | Weekend services on both the Sunderland and West Riding (Bradford) routes will be slightly retimed. On the West Riding route, most trains will now call at Mirfield, but there will be fewer trains calling at Wakefield Kirkgate and Pontefract Monkhill. Customers making connections to/from Huddersfield will now find the connection easier to make at Mirfield rather than at Brighouse. |

| London Midland | Station rebuilding work is taking place at Cosford until March 2012, with buses running between the station and Albrighton to connect with trains. Additional carriages are being introduced on trains to and from Walsall, Shrewsbury, Leamington Spa, Stourbridge, Hereford and Stratford-upon-Avon. Trains on the Cross-City Route (between Lichfield and Longbridge / Redditch) will return to their normal frequency and journey time following Autumn speed restrictions. | Merseyrail | From April 2012, trains will be affected by major engineering work at Liverpool Central. Also, Chester services will be increased during the morning peak hours, which will result in a few alterations to Ellesmere Port and Birkenhead services. |

There will be an increased number of carriages on peak-time services on the West Anglia routes (trains via Cheshunt / Cambridge), and journey times are being reduced on these routes. A new service is being introduced between Broxbourne and London Liverpool Street, and trains between Bishops Stortford and Stratford will run every 30 minutes. Great Eastern services (via Shenfield) will also get an increased number of carriages on peak-time services. A new service is being introduced at 19:32 from London Liverpool Street to Harwich International to connect with the overnight Stena Line sailing to the Hook of Holland. |
| Northern Rail | Additional evening-peak services will be introduced between Manchester Piccadilly, Marple, New Mills and Sheffield. The timetable between Preston and Ormskirk will be amended to provide trains approximately every 90 minutes, with a later close of service. Some early morning trains between Leeds and Carlisle will be retimed, including the 05:55 Leeds to Carlisle now departing at 05:29 to provide better connection opportunities at Carlisle for trains to Glasgow. An additional morning and evening peak time train will run between Doncaster and Leeds, between Ilkley and Leeds, and between Skipton and Leeds. Six additional trains between York and Selby / Hull will be calling at Sherburn-in-Elmet during the day. Buckshaw Parkway station is now fully open, between Chorley and Leyland. |
| ScotRail | Additional trains are being introduced on several routes, including Inverness - Glasgow / Edinburgh, Dundee - Glasgow, Elgin / Aberdeen - Inverness, and Ayr - Girvan. These changes will result in an increased number of trains calling at Gleneagles (6 extra stops) and at Broughty Ferry (9 extra stops). An additional Saturday late-night service is being introduced between Edinburgh and Dunbar. The ScotRail timetable will not change in May 2012, and this timetable will continue through until 8 December 2012. |
| South West Trains | There are a small number of minor alterations to 'Main Line' services (Weymouth / Portsmouth / Bristol / Salisbury trains). No major alterations to any other timetables have been advised, but please use the Journey Planner to confirm your travel details. |
| Southeastern | Additional train services will run during the day between Bromley South and Grove Park, and an additional number of carriages will be introduced to trains between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings. Trains between Slade Green and Barnehurst will be amended to create a new circular service to/from London Cannon Street via the Woolwich and Bexleyheath lines. |
| Southern | Between January and March, major engineering work will be taking place between Hastings and Ashford International, with buses replacing trains. There are several other minor alterations to train times, and some more additional trains introduced. Please use the Journey Planner to confirm your travel details. |
| Stansted Express | All Stansted Express trains will now be formed using the new trains which were introduced to the route during 2011. |
| Virgin Trains | No major alterations to timetables have been advised, but please use the Journey Planner to confirm your travel details. The 12:00 Holyhead to Dublin ferry will be retimed to sail at 11:50 from the 6th January 2012. |
