Unattended luggage

Luggage may be left unattended for a variety of reasons, unfortunately not all of these reasons are innocent.

It is possible that unattended luggage maybe regarded as a "suspicious" item and reported as such by railway staff or passengers. This will probably result in a security alert so that the item can be safely dealt with.

Whilst the unattended item is dealt with safely it may be necessary:

• to stop trains arriving at or departing from a station
• evacuate the station
• bring a train to an unscheduled stop and evacuate the train/station

Delays to passengers journeys are the inevitable result of any of these actions.

By ensuring that your luggage is not left unattended you will not only be keeping fellow passengers safe but also helping to ensure that security alerts and the delays that result are kept to a minimum.
