Explore Europe with a great value Interrail Pass – the rail pass for everyone

About Interrail

Did you know the Interrail Pass is over 50 years old? Originally launched in 1972 to encourage young people to explore Europe by rail, there is now an Interrail Pass for everyone – youths, adults and seniors – with children aged 4 to 11 going free with an adult who pays full fare.

You can even travel from your home station to the closest National Rail station to your point of exit from the country – and back home again afterwards – with your Interrail Pass, as well as on Eurostar services.

Interrail is a flexible rail pass that works at your pace and lets you discover over 40,000 stations across 33 countries of Europe however you want. Turkey today, Transylvania tomorrow? Generations have passed down the joys of Interrailing. It’s 1 Pass with endless possibilities… take a look at the Interrail website and start creating your own story today!

Types of Interrail Pass

  • The Interrail Global Pass gives you the freedom to travel flexibly around 33 countries of Europe, from Portugal to Finland, and from Ireland to Turkey. You can choose from different durations, from 4 days in 1 month up to 3 month’s continuous travel

  • The Interrail One Country Pass allows you to discover a single country of Europe inside out. Choose from 29 different countries and the following durations: 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8 travel days in 1 month

  • You can also get a 1st Class option for both the Interrail Global Pass and the Interrail One Country Pass. This provides benefits such as more space, at-seat snacks and Wi-Fi (depending on the service)

Interrail Pass prices

An Interrail Global Pass is available from £154 (for a 4 Day, 2nd Class Youth Pass), while prices for an Interrail One Country Pass start from as little as £43. Explore more about Interrail Passes here.

Where to use your Interrail Pass

For an overview of railway carriers accepting Interrail Passholders, showing cities, train and ferry connections and average journey times between popular destinations, you can view and download the Interrail map here.

Seat reservations

You may need to make seat reservations for some services. The Interrail Pass can be used on all local, regional and InterCity trains freely without a seat reservation. However, some High-Speed trains, Scenic trains and Night Sleeper services have allocated seating (just like an airline) so you will need to make a special “Interrail Passholder” rate reservation before you board. You can do this on the Rail Planner app.

It is advisable to make your reservations up to 3 months in advance to ensure you get on your desired train because places for Interrail Passholders are limited. Please read our reservations page for more details.

How to book your Interrail Pass

To book your Pass, please visit National Rail’s Interrail website. We don’t charge booking or transaction fees when you order with us and, for your peace of mind, we offer fulfilment through secure mobile Passes so you can travel Europe on your mobile phone. If you choose Paper Passes you can have peace of mind that we will only dispatch your Passes via Special Delivery. We also offer optional Pass Protection for Paper Passes in case you lose your Interrail pass while you are abroad.

Digital Interrail Passes

Most Interrail Passes are available to be fulfilled as an mPass. You can travel Europe with the convenience of having your Interrail Pass on your mobile phone. Please choose “mobile” as your fulfilment option when purchasing and you will be asked to download the Rail Planner app where you can retrieve your Interrail mPass barcode with the code we provide you in your email confirmation. Your Interrail Pass will be safely stored in the Rail Planner App for the duration of your journey.

Buying an Interrail Pass in advance

You can buy an Interrail Pass up to 11 months before you travel.

Please note, when it comes to choosing your start date, 2 different options exist:

  • For Paper Passes you will need to select your first date of travel (start date) at the time of booking, so be sure to get the correct date

  • For mPasses you can choose a start date any time within 11 months from your purchase date, as the mPass is only activated at the time you request it

Additional offers with your Interrail Pass

Extra travel benefits for each country exist within your Pass, and you may also find that there are partner benefits for non-rail experiences available too. Be sure to check out the benefits for each country.

I went Interrailing with my mum. We went to Sicily, sampled the street food and enjoyed a few limoncellos. I loved it when the train got shunted onto the ferry.

Yes, you can. As Eurostar trains require a compulsory seat reservation, you must make a Passholder Reservation in advance of your departure date. We recommend you do this at least 3 months in advance. This can be done on the Eurostar Interrail Page or through the Eurostar call centre on 03432 186 186. When booking, remember to tell them you have an Interrail Pass so you are given the Passholder rate!

Yes, National Rail occasionally run promotions on Interrail Passes. The Interrail by National Rail website will advertise when a promotion is on and discounted prices will be shown.

Please take care to read the terms and conditions of promotions, as promotional Passes are often non-exchangeable and non-refundable meaning no refunds can be given. For fully flexible (exchangeable/refundable) Passes the option will always exist to purchase these at the same time a Promotion is on using the above link.
