Timetable Changes

You can find out about any changes to the published National Rail timetable here

The National Rail Timetable is changed twice a year.

The current timetable started on Sunday 10 December 2023 and operates until Saturday 1 June 2024.

The next timetable starts on Sunday 2 June 2024 and operates until Saturday 14 December 2024.

Planned timetables are subject to change, so please use the Journey Planner to check for the most up-to-date information before you travel, or see Upcoming Timetable Changes below for details of specific train companies. You can also check the Temporary Timetable Changes page for details of any changes to when timetable information will be available.

For more information, including how to create and save your own custom timetables, see our Timetables page.

Published Timetable of the Day

National Rail operates a Published Timetable of the Day, which gives the schedule of passenger services (including rail replacement services) on the day you plan to travel. This is different from the existing May or December timetable. The Published Timetable of the Day will be available no later than 22:00 on the day before the changes happen. All changes will be reflected in the Journey Planner and on the Live Trains page, the places where you will always find the most up-to-date timetable information.

Upcoming Timetable Changes

Please check below for changes that will be made by train companies to the timetable from 2 June 2024.

Avanti West Coast

The main change to the Avanti West Coast service from June is the removal of two direct services between Shrewsbury and London. These will start and terminate at Birmingham New Street or Wolverhampton instead, and onward connections are readily available with other operators.

More trains have been added to Avanti West Coast's West Midlands route Monday to Saturday and a few alterations have been made to calling patterns on existing routes, providing more journey opportunities and better connections.

c2c

c2c have announced a number of timetable changes to be introduced on Sunday 2 June, including an increase in off-peak services between Shoeburyness and London Fenchurch Street.

The amended timetable, which includes two new morning peak (Monday to Friday) services from Shoeburyness/Leigh-on-Sea to London Fenchurch Street, will see two additional off-peak services (Monday to Friday) running every hour in both directions from London Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness.

The introduction of these additional off-peak services means that many stations on the c2c route will provide customers with a regular, four trains per hour, 15-minute service.

Northern

Most services from June 2024 will run at the same level as they do in the current December 2023 timetable with some slight re-timings in places.

However, the following key changes will be taking place across the Northern network:

Newcastle - Ashington (Northumberland line): The significant investment in this line of route will lead to a new, daily passenger service between Newcastle and Ashington, initially serving new stations at Newsham and Seaton Delaval. Selected Northumberland line services will also include a Manors call, thereby improving service at this station.

Leeds - Skipton and Cumbria: Additional station calls and additional train capacity on some services.

Calder Valley service: Additional station calls on some services, at Sowerby Bridge, Mytholmroyd and Low Moor.

Leeds - Harrogate and York: This is one for the train experts, there will be an increase in Class 170 train availability meaning a reduction of class 150 deployment on peak services on this route.

Liverpool - Manchester Airport: There will be more longer 4-carriage trains on Liverpool – Manchester Airport services.

Rochdale/Manchester – Ribblehead Service: Northern is planning to introduce a new Saturday service that will link Manchester, Salford, Bolton and Blackburn to the Yorkshire Dales via Clitheroe. It is planned to operate twice a day, as follows:

  • Extension of the 07:52 and 14:52 Rochdale – Blackburn services to Ribblehead via Clitheroe and Hellifield.

  • Extension of the 12:18 and 19:18 Blackburn – Rochdale services to start back from Ribblehead.

Heaton Chapel and Levenshulme: Due to the current limited Sunday service towards Manchester from Heaton Chapel and Levenshulme, additional calls will be added to a number of Buxton – Manchester services.

ScotRail

New train stations are opening in Leven and Cameron Bridge on 2 June, with rail services connecting customers with Edinburgh, Fife, and the Tay Cities.

The £116million Levenmouth Rail Link will reconnect Leven and Cameron Bridge to Scotland’s railway network for the first time in more than half a century.

Leven and Cameron Bridge stations will have an hourly service to and from Edinburgh via Kirkcaldy.

A route by route comprehensive summary of the changes being made is available on the Southeastern website.

Southern

Key changes to Southern services from Sunday 2 June 2024:

West Coastway:

From Monday to Saturday, there will be changes on Southern's West Coastway route. This is to improve the reliability of the service in this area and to provide faster regional journeys between Brighton, Chichester and Southampton, and for connections to the West of England.

The new Monday to Saturday timetable will be formed of:

  • Half-hourly service between Brighton and Southampton Central

  • Hourly service between Brighton and Portsmouth & Southsea

  • Half-hourly service between London Victoria and Portsmouth Harbour/Bognor Regis. These trains attach and detach at Horsham.

  • Half-hourly service between London Victoria and Littlehampton via Hove

  • Hourly stopping service (all stations) between Brighton and Chichester via Littlehampton

  • Half-hourly shuttle services between Bognor Regis and Barnham

Customers travelling between Southampton Central and London Victoria via Gatwick Airport will need to change trains at Barnham or Chichester.

The Sunday service will be largely unchanged, except for some minor re-timing.

Hemel Hempstead/Watford Junction and Clapham Junction/East Croydon:

All Southern services will run between East Croydon, Clapham Junction and Watford Junction only. Hemel Hempstead will no longer be served by Southern services. More information about this change can be found here.

Epsom, Dorking and London Victoria via Hackbridge:

Monday to Friday, the 06:31 Epsom to London Victoria service will now start from Horsham at 05:49.
