What is Alexa?

Alexa is a voice service that runs on Alexa enabled devices such as the Amazon Echo and Echo Dot. You can invoke it by saying “Alexa” followed by a command of your choice.

 

What is a Skill?

A skill is a 3rd-party developed voice experience that add to the capabilities of any Alexa-enabled device.

 

How can the National Rail skill help you?

This skill allows customers to set up their regular commuter route and find out if their trains are running on time with a simple voice command.

It also allows users to get the next two departure times of any national rail service.

All delays, bulletins and cancellations are included in announcements.

 

How do I enable the National Rail skill?

- On your smartphone open the Alexa App.

- Tap the Skills menu and search for National Rail.

- Tap Enable.

- The National Rail skill is now enabled for Alexa and you can start using it on your Amazon Echo device.

 

How do I get started?

To start using the skill, say "Alexa Launch National Rail".

Set-up your commute - Say "set-up my commute"

To invoke the skill and ask for your commute at the same time, say “Alexa ask National Rail how my commute is”.

To invoke the skill and plan a journey at the same time say, “Alexa ask National Rail to plan a journey”.


What phrases can I say once I've started the skill?

To ask for your commute times, say "How is my commute".

To plan a journey, say "Plan a journey."

To cancel at any time say “Cancel”.
