The 16-18 MetroSaver is a ticket exclusively for 16 to 18 year old.

The ticket gives 60% discount off an adult Season Ticket and is valid on Metro, Shields Ferry and local rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland*. It can also be used on buses in the Quaylink Central Zone**

*You need a special ticket to accompany your smartcard to travel between Newcastle and Sunderland on Northern trains. Collect at and Nexus TravelShop

**Central Zone covers Q1 and Q2 between Central Station and Gateshead Interchange, and Q3 between Haymarket bus station.

Apply for your FREE Pop card online here. You will need to upload a photograph.

Your Pop card will take about five working days to arrive in the post. When it arrives take it to a Nexus TravelShop and staff will activate your 16-18 discount. You'll need to show proof that you are aged 16 or 17 years on 31 August 2015.

  • A teen travel / college I.D. card is required to purchase the ticket
  • I.D. cards must be taken to a TravelShop, with a passport style photograph for the purchase of the first 16-18 MetroSaver
  • Passengers may be required to produce the authorised I.D. card alongside a valid 16-18 MetroSaver by authorised members of staff
  • The POP smartcard is non transferable and shouldn't be used by anyone apart from the cardholder
  • If the I.D. card is lost, a charge of £5.00 will be payable for a replacement
  • Failure to present a valid MetroSaver may result in a Penalty Fare or prosecution
