Enclosed with the free Young Scot National Entitlement Card is a voucher which entitles the holder to the free Scottish Youth Railcard (SYR).
If you would like a free Scottish Youth Railcard (SYR), simply take your voucher to your local manned rail ticket office where the voucher will be exchanged for a Scottish Youth Railcard (SYR). The National Entitlement Card must also be presented.
The Scottish Youth Railcard is available free to 16-18 year olds and full time volunteers up to the age of 25, who are in possession of a National Entitlement Card.
Key conditions
Please note that you will need to spend a minimum of £16 on Standard Day Returns and Standard Open Returns when travelling before 10am (Monday to Friday) and spend a minimum of £8 on Standard Singles, when travelling at this time, in order to receive the one-third discount.

Holders of a Scottish Youth Rail Card are entitled to:
- 34% off most rail fares
- 50% off all season tickets
- 34% off most advance purchases
- No minimum fare on ‘off peak’ fares
- No minimum fares in July and August

How to buy your tickets
Please note: The Journey Planner and online ticket retailers will not calculate discounts for Scottish Youth Railcard holders. Tickets should be purchased in person from the Ticket Office to claim the Railcard discount.
