Pages of the Sea - Frequently Asked Questions

If I have a question about travelling to the 14-18 NOW event, who or where should I ask?

Please ask a member of staff at your local staffed National Rail station, check the National Rail journey planner at www.nationalrail.co.uk or telephone the National Rail Enquiries contact centre on 08457 48 49 50

What are the transport arrangements?

The rail voucher you have been sent has been provided by the Rail Delivery Group. Each voucher allows the named volunteer to travel between their local National Rail station in Great Britain and a nominated National Rail station in Great Britain for the event they are supporting on Sunday 11th November.

There are a number of planned track closures over the weekend of 10-11 November 2018 and volunteers are advised to check www.nationalrail.co.uk/remembranceweekend before travelling to see if their journey will be affected. The National Rail journey planner can help with finding alternative routes.

When can I travel?

Travel from nearest station to the nominated National Rail station can be made between Saturday 10th November and Sunday 11th November 2018. Return travel can be made from Sunday 11th November to Monday 12th November 2018.

Does this rail voucher allow me to travel across London?

The rail voucher will allow you to travel across London on a London Overground, TfL Rail or Thameslink service between National Rail stations, but not on London Underground, Docklands Light Railway (DLR), London Buses or the London Tram.

What is the class of travel?

The rail voucher entitles the holders to Standard Class travel.  Your local train operating company may allow you to upgrade this voucher for a fee, please ask at your local staffed National Rail station.

What do I do at the ticket gates?

Please find a member of National Rail staff and present your rail voucher for entry/exit.

Can I get a seat reservation?

Yes. Just ask at your local staffed National Rail station and show this special rail voucher.

Can I use a sleeper service?

If your journey requires you to travel on the sleeper services provided by Caledonian Sleeper (www.sleeper.scot), and Great Western Railway (www.gwr.com/plan-journey/journey-information/on-board/night-riviera-sleeper) you will need to book sleeper accommodation, either seat or sleeping berth. The cost of sleeper accommodation is not included in your rail voucher, but the travel element is. Sleeper reservations can be made direct with the train operators or at your local National Rail station.

I live on the Isle of Wight; can I use this rail voucher on the Isle of Wight ferries?

Is the rail voucher transferable?

No, this rail voucher is only valid for listed volunteers. You may be asked to produce the Invitation and ID as proof of identity.

What happens if I miss my train or if it’s cancelled?

Your rail voucher is not train specific and allows travel during the period of validity. Any seat reservations, however, will be train specific. You can plan your journey at www.nationalrail.co.uk or by visiting your local staffed National Rail station.  Please allow sufficient time to complete your journey.

What are the provisions for assisted travel?

We will always do our best to help passengers that need assistance. If you need help when travelling by rail, it is best to book assistance in advance.  Visit www.nationalrail.co.uk/disabledpassengers for further information

Can I travel with my assistance dog?

Can other people travel with me?

Each rail voucher is valid for listed volunteers. Other people who wish to travel with you will need to buy a ticket for their journey from a National Rail retailer.

Can I bring luggage?

Yes. Please check the National Rail Conditions of Travel for any restrictions.

What happens if I’ve already bought my train tickets?

Please contact the National Rail retailer who you bought the tickets from to enquire if they are refundable, before you travel.
