Changes to train times

 

Travelling to / from London over the August Bank Holiday weekend

Saturday 24 August - Monday 26 August 2019

Over the August Bank Holiday weekend a number of events are taking place across England and Wales. However this is also a time where a considerable amount of improvement and engineering work is undertaken on Britain's rail network.

These works are likely to affect customers travelling to the following events:

  • Notting Hill Carnival
  • Edinburgh Fringe Festival
  • Coral Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium
  • Leeds and Reading Festivals
  • 3rd Ashes Test at Headingley
  • Ebor Meeting at York Racecourse
  • Premier League and Football League Fixtures (Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle, Liverpool v Arsenal, Manchester United v Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough v Millwall, QPR v Wigan Athletic)

 

Customers travelling to these events are advised to view our August Bank Holiday travel summary to check whether their journeys will be affected.

Journeys to / from London will be severely disrupted with major engineering work taking place at:

London Kings Cross

On Saturday and Sunday trains WILL NOT RUN between Peterborough and London Kings Cross. All Grand Central services will be cancelled and Hull Trains will run a reduced service which will divert to London St Pancras International. 

You are advised NOT TO TRAVEL where possible and instead travel on Thursday 22, Friday 23 or Tuesday 27 August for this weekend.

A limited bus service will run between Peterborough and Hitchin, between Hitchin and Potters Bar, between Letchworth Garden City and Cambridge and between Stevenage and Enfield Chase. Buses will also run between Peterborough and Bedford, providing an alternative route to and from London via Bedford on Thameslink services.

Newark

East Midlands Trains trains are replaced by buses between Nottingham and Lincoln and also between Newark North Gate and Lincoln.

Most LNER trains will be diverted between Doncaster and Peterborough via but not calling at Lincoln but some trains will run through to terminate or start from Retford. Replacement buses will run between Retford and Peterborough via Newark and Grantham.

Milton Keynes Central

Throughout the weekend trains will run to a reduced timetable and will be retimed.

Additionally on Sunday until 08:30, buses will replace London Northwestern Railway trains between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central / Northampton.

Virgin Trains will have a number of alterations in place.
