Description

Engineering work is taking place between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central in the Carstairs and Rutherglen areas closing the lines:

  • between Carfin and Glasgow Central from Saturday to Monday
  • between Edinburgh and Motherwell via Carstairs on Saturday and Sunday
  • between Motherwell and Glasgow Central on Monday

Engineering work is also taking place in the Lockerbie area which also affect trains over this route. Further information can be found here.

No trains will run between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central via Carstairs.

Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express:

Trains will not run between Carlisle and Edinburgh / Glasgow Central via Carstairs.

You should use replacement buses between Carlisle and Edinburgh / Glasgow Central.

CrossCountry: 

On Saturday and Sunday buses will replace trains between Edinburgh and Motherwell.

On Monday buses will replace trains between Motherwell and Glasgow Central.

If you are travelling direct between Edinburgh and Glasgow, you are advised to travel via Glasgow Queen Street.

LNER:

If you are travelling with LNER you should use other Train Operators between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central via Motherwell or direct between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street.

ScotRail:

On Saturday to Monday, trains will run hourly between Edinburgh and Carfin. Buses will run between Shotts and Glasgow Central.

On Saturday to Monday, a hourly train service will run between Glasgow Central and Lanark calling at all stations between Newton and Lanark. These trains do not call at stations between Glasgow Central and Newton via Cambuslang.

A hourly bus service will run between Glasgow Central and Lanark calling at all stations via Cambuslang.

Saturday only, trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central via Carstairs, are replaced by buses throughout. On Monday, buses will replace trains between Motherwell and Glasgow Central.
