Description

On Tuesday 28 January, a freight train derailed at Eastleigh. This has resulted in some lines being blocked as significant repairs are needed to fully reopen the railway through the station.

Disruption will continue until further notice.

Advice for Great Western Railway customers:

Great Western Railway services will not run between Salisbury and Portsmouth Harbour. To help complete your journey you may use:

  • South Western Railway on any reasonable route including between Romsey and Southampton Central via Chandlers Ford, and between Southampton Central and Basingstoke
  • CrossCountry between Southampton Central and Reading
  • Replacement road transport between Salisbury and Southampton Central (trains are not running between these stations due to a landslip)
  • Southern between Brighton and Gatwick Airport

Advice for Southern customers:

Trains will be unable to run to / from Eastleigh or Southampton Airport Parkway. If you need these stations, you should travel to Fareham or Southampton Central and use a replacement bus from there. You may also need to change at Barnham part way through your journey to reach your destination.

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on South Western Railway services between Southampton and London where available.

We advise to check journey planners before heading to stations for the most up to date information.

Additional information:

Temporary repairs have been carried out, and this is allowing some operators to run via Eastleigh.

Network Rail advise that the repair work is complex, and requires some very specific parts to fully rectify.

As such, we are unable to provide a date when services will resume.

A statement from Network Rail and photos can be viewed here.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey up to and including 10th April using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner

You can find the location of your bus replacement by checking station signs or by searching for your station on our station information pages
