Egham is a Town in the Runnymede borough of Surrey. It is part of the Greater London Urban Area, it therefore falls within the London commuter belt as it is situated only 19 miles (31 km) away from London. The town attracts thousands of visitors each year as it is home to the campus of the Royal Halloway, University of London that is located in Egham Hill the elevated part of the town. Egham is home to a large P&G research centre and London Innovation Centre, on Rusham Park, formally owned by Shell oils. Other notable employers include information technology consultancies, Electronics and enterprise holdings. The eastern part of Egham shares connections with the development and enhancement of prestige sports cars including Ferrari and Maserati and Porsche.

Windsor castle is only 4.5 miles away, it is considered one of the seven wonders of Britain, it is one the three official residences of the Queen of England.

There are 2 trains per hour travelling to Weybridge and two trains per hour operating to Reading. On Sundays train services are reduced to 1 train per hour to Woking and 2 trains per hour to Reading.

The station is located between Virginia Water and Staines on the London Waterloo to Reading and Weybridge line operated by South Western Railway. It is also the main gateway for tourists visiting Runnymede, the Thames-side meadow where the Magna Carta was signed in 1215. The other side of the Thames is characterized by the National Trust preserved woodland of Ankerwycke that is home to the oldest tree, a 2,500-year-old Yew. A bus service departing from Egham train station takes visitors in approximately 40 minutes to either Ankerwycke and Runnymede. Visitors travelling from Egham station can benefit from two entrances. The main entrance located on School lane, just off Station road. It leads travellers to the station hall and directly to platform 1. Passengers travelling from Platform 2 can either use a footbridge or use a step-free access accessible from the street or from the car park. There are customer help points available at this station. The ticket office is open seven days a week and self-service ticket machines are available to travellers, one is located outside the station entrance, while the other is situated on platform 2. Additional services include a photo box, payphones and outlet selling refreshments. There are seats located on both platforms. There are two carparks available to travellers on each side of the station.
