Wickford is a town of the Borough of Basildon in Essex. The town is crossed by two rivers, River Crouch flows from the west to the east while The River Wick flows into the River Crouch from the south.

The town is situated 30-miles (50 km) east of London and for this reason it has become a residential town for commuters working in London. Wickford railway station is located on the Shenfield to Southend Line and it is also the western terminus of the Crouch Valley Line. The majority of train services on both lines connect to the Great Eastern Main Line at Shenfield for London Liverpool street that is 29 miles (46.71 km) away from Wickford. All trains operating from Wickford station are run by Greater Anglia. There are three trains per hour running during weekdays off peak to London Liverpool Street. The service is direct and the train journey is direct and it can take up to 38 minutes. The first train departs from Wickford at 04:21am, while the last train departs at 11:26pm. There are three trains per hour to Southend Victoria, the journey time is approximately 20 minutes. One train directed to Southminister departs every 40 minutes from Wickford station.
