New Year’s Eve Overnight Train Services From London

A number of National Rail train companies will be running additional trains after the New Year’s Eve events in London start to draw to a close

From midnight on New Year’s Eve Sunday 31 December, into the small hours of New Year’s Day Monday 1 January, extra services will run from some central London stations so you can journey home after the night’s excitement.

You can check whether trains will run on your route home by checking your train company information in the list below.

Updates to the original list have been made. Please continue to check that your journey remains possible, right up until the big night, using the National Rail Journey Planner.

Avanti West Coast

No additional services. Trains will stop running earlier than normal on New Year’s Eve.

Chiltern Railways

After New Year’s Eve, the 00:05 London Marylebone to Banbury is cancelled, and the following additional late night trains will operate from London Marylebone:

  • 00:30 London Marylebone to High Wycombe

  • 00:45 London Marylebone to Oxford

  • 00:50 * London Marylebone to Banbury

  • 01:10 London Marylebone to Aylesbury

  • 01:35 London Marylebone to Oxford

  • 01:40 London Marylebone to Banbury

  • 02:00 London Marylebone to Aylesbury (via High Wycombe)

* The 00.50, 01.40 and 02.00 departures from London Marylebone connect with rail replacement buses at Beaconsfield for Amersham and stations to Aylesbury Vale Parkway.

East Midlands Railway

No additional overnight trains have been announced.

Elizabeth line

After New Year’s Eve, there will be a special all-night service running overnight between:

  • Hayes & Harlington and Shenfield

  • Reading and Abbey Wood

  • Maidenhead and Abbey Wood

No extra services will be running overnight to and from Heathrow Airport.

Gatwick Express

No additional overnight trains will run.

Great Northern

After New Year’s Eve, the following services are scheduled:

  • 00:02 and 01:03 London Kings Cross to Royston

  • 00:32 and 01:32 London Kings Cross to Peterborough

No additional overnight trains will run.

Great Western Railway (GWR)

No additional overnight trains have been announced.

Greater Anglia

No additional overnight trains have been announced.

Heathrow Express

No additional overnight trains have been announced.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER)

No additional services. Trains will stop running earlier than normal on New Year’s Eve.

London Northwestern Railway

After New Year’s Eve, the following overnight service is scheduled:

  • 01:39 London Euston to Milton Keynes Central (calls at 9 stations en route)

London Overground

After New Year’s Eve, additional late night services will operate on some London Overground routes:

London Euston to Watford Junction:

  • 01:05 London Euston to Queens Park

  • 01:44 London Euston to Watford Junction

London Liverpool Street to Enfield Town / Cheshunt / Chingford:

Special overnight service.

Highbury & Islington to West Croydon / Clapham Junction / Crystal Palace:

Special overnight service between Highbury & Islington and Crystal Palace/West Croydon.

Richmond / Clapham Junction to Stratford:

Special overnight service.

South Western Railway

After the New Year’s Eve festivities, there will be some additional overnight departures from London Waterloo on New Year’s Day between midnight and 05:00 (please check before you travel as these services are subject to last minute alterations).

The following extra services will depart from London Waterloo:

  • 00:12 to London Waterloo via Strawberry Hill

  • 00:18, 00:30, 01:00, 01:30, 02:00, 02:30, 03:00, 03:30, 04:00, 04:30 to Kingston via Richmond

  • 00:31 to Guildford

  • 00:40, 01:35, 02:10, 03:10 to Basingstoke

  • 00:45, 01:45, 02:45, 03:45, 04:45 to Guildford via Woking

  • 01:10 to Southampton Central

  • 01:15, 02:15, 03:15, 04:15 to Twickenham via Wimbledon


Southeastern

After midnight on New Year’s Eve, the following additional early morning services will run:

From London Cannon Street:

  • The 23:53 London Cannon Street to Dartford service will be amended to run at 00:23

  • Additional trains will run at 00:53 / 01:23 / 01:53 / 02:23 from London Cannon Street to Dartford via Greenwich

  • Additional train at 01:00 from London Cannon Street to Ramsgate, calling at London Bridge, Rochester, then all stations via Faversham

  • The 00:38 London Cannon Street to Gillingham service will be amended to start at 01:40, calling at London Bridge, then as booked

From London Blackfriars:

  • The 23:56 London Blackfriars to Orpington service will start from Elephant & Castle at 00:30

  • Additional trains will run at 01:00 / 01:30 / 02:00 / 02:30 and 03:00 from Elephant & Castle to Orpington, calling at all stations via Herne Hill

From London Charing Cross:

  • Additional trains will run at 00:44 / 01:14 / 01:44 / 02:14 from London Charing Cross to Dartford via Bexleyheath calling at the normal stations

  • Additional trains will run at 00:35 / 01:05 / 01:35 / 02:05 / 02:35 from London Charing Cross to Hayes, calling at London Bridge, Lewisham, Ladywell, then all stations

  • Additional trains will run at 00:38 and 01:38 from London Charing Cross to Ashford International, calling at London Bridge, Orpington, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, then all stations

  • An additional train will run at 00:52 from London Charing Cross to Hastings, calling at London Bridge, Orpington, Sevenoaks, Hildenborough, Tonbridge and then all stations except West St Leonards

  • An additional train will run at 01:52 from London Charing Cross to Tunbridge Wells, calling at London Bridge, Orpington, Sevenoaks, then all stations

  • An additional train will run at 01:20 from London Charing Cross to Ashford, calling at London Bridge, St Mary Cray, Swanley, Otford, Borough Green then all stations via Maidstone

  • Additional trains will run at 01:40 / 02:10 / 02:40 from London Charing Cross to Sevenoaks, calling at London Bridge then call at all the normal stations

  • Additional trains will run at 01:00 / 01:30 / 02:00 / 02:30 from London Charing Cross to Gravesend via Sidcup. The 00:04 London Charing Cross to Gravesend via Sidcup service will start later at 00:30

  • The 00:10 London Charing Cross to Orpington service will start later at 00:40 and will be extended to Sevenoaks calling all stations. The 00:40 London Charing Cross to Orpington service will start later at 01:10 and will be extended to Sevenoaks calling all stations

Southern

No additional overnight trains will run.

Stansted Express

No additional overnight trains have been announced.

Thameslink

Thameslink services will not run overnight and there will be no alternative journey options provided.
