Trains between Carlisle and Leeds
- TOC(s) affected
In January, poor weather conditions caused a landslip at Eden Brows, two miles north of Armathwaite. Work is ongoing to stabilise the landslip and repair damage to the track. The line is expected to reopen on 31 March.
Background - an estimated 500,000 tonnes of earth have moved already and the embankment is still moving. Whilst monitoring the embankment, Network Rail have found a twist fault in the tracks caused by the ground movement. The slip is accelerating and the extent of this landslip means it is no longer safe to run trains on this section of railway.
The line between Carlisle and Armathwaite is currently closed in both directions. While work is taking place a replacement bus service will run between these stations.
Buses will also run direct from Carlisle to Appleby.
Passengers travelling from Carlisle to stations between Appleby and Leeds are advised to use the direct bus service to Appleby to cut journey times to Leeds.
Additional buses will run between Penrith North Lakes and Appleby to connect with trains to / from Scotland.
Your journey may take approximately 60 minutes longer.
