South Western Railway services during Christmas and New Year 2018/19

Please find below a day-by-day summary of the services that South Western Railway will be running over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holiday period.

Saturday 22 December

 

A normal service was expected to run. However, industrial action has been announced which may affect your travel plans, latest information is available here.

Sunday 23 December

 

Major engineering work will be taking place in the Westbury area:

No South Western Railway services will run between Bristol Temple Meads and Salisbury. Valid tickets can be used on Great Western Railway services between Bristol Temple Meads and Salisbury. A replacement bus for the last train of the day from Bristol Temple Meads will run between Trowbridge and Salisbury

Engineering work at London Waterloo:

A reduced train service will run to / from London Waterloo, with additional services running between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction. Services between London Waterloo and London Waterloo via Brentford and Twickenham will not run.

Other services will be amended to run to / from Clapham Junction, Surbiton or Wimbledon rather than London Waterloo. Customers will often need to change trains at Clapham Junction if they are travelling to / from London Waterloo.

South Western Railway train services across the network will be amended, retimed or cancelled, with some additional services running.

Monday 24 December

 

From 19:00 a revised service will run with many late evening trains being cancelled or not running to their normal destinations. The network will shut down completely by about 22:00 and if you plan to travel during the evening you should make sure your journey will be possible before starting your journey.

No South Western Railway services will run between Bristol Temple Meads and Salisbury. Valid tickets can be used on Great Western Railway services between Bristol Temple Meads and Salisbury. A replacement bus for the last train of the day from Bristol Temple Meads will run between Trowbridge and Salisbury.

Engineering work is taking place at London Waterloo, closing a number of lines and platforms at the station:

As a result, a shuttle service will run between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction. Services between London Waterloo and London Waterloo via Brentford and Twickenham will not run.

Other services will be amended to run to / from Clapham Junction rather than London Waterloo. Customers will need to change trains at Clapham Junction if they are travelling to / from London Waterloo.

Friday 28 December

South Western Railway planned to operate a Saturday timetable today. But industrial action has been announced which may affect services, latest information can be found here.

A special service will run after midnight for the New Year celebrations.

Major engineering work will be taking place in the Westbury area:

No services will run between Salisbury and Bristol Temple Meads. Customers should use Great Western Railway services.

Tuesday 1 January 2019

 

Extra trains will run on the following routes during the early hour of New Years Day for those travelling home from the New Year celebrations in Central London:

London Waterloo to Kingston via Richmond and Twickenham

London Waterloo to Kingston via Wimbledon

London Waterloo to Guildford via Woking

London Waterloo to Basingstoke

Some services which normally leave London Waterloo just after midnight will be delayed to provide services for those returning from the New Year celebrations.

For the rest of New Years Day a Sunday service will operate.

No services will run between Salisbury and Bristol Temple Meads. Customers should use Great Western Railway services.
