Changes to train times

 

Travelling to the Airport during Christmas and New Year 2017/18

Train operators will be making changes to their normal service levels over the Christmas and New Year holiday. A considerable amount of engineering work will also take place over the holiday period. So your journey to and from the airport may be affected.
You can plan your train journey to and from your airport station using the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner.
Please note that no trains will be running on Christmas Day (Monday 25 December), and only a limited service on a small number of routes will run on Boxing Day (Tuesday 26 December).

How your journey to the airport may be affected
Aberdeen You can get to the airport by taxi from Dyce station (cost approx. £6-£7). Dyce station is served by ScotRail.
No engineering work is planned in the Aberdeen area over the festive period. But there will be no ScotRail services in the Aberdeen area on 25 and 26 December, or on 1 January. Also, trains will finish early on 24 and 31 December, and there will be a late start on 2 January.
Birmingham

Arriva Trains Wales, CrossCountry, London Midland and Virgin Trains go to Birmingham International station (which is adjacent to the airport and connected by monorail)

From Sunday 24 December to Tuesday 2 January, trains will not run between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street. Although Birmingham International is not on the affected line, your journey to and from the airport may be disrupted by this work.
Bournemouth

Bus link from Bournemouth station, which is served by CrossCountry and South Western Railway

Major engineering work is taking place in the Southampton area throughout the holiday period, which may significantly affect your journey to and from nearby Bournemouth. Please check your journey.
Bristol

Bus link from Bristol Temple Meads station, which is served by CrossCountry and Great Western Railway

No engineering work is planned to affect trains in the Bristol area over the holiday period.
Cardiff

Arriva Trains Wales at Rhoose Cardiff International Airport station, connecting to the airport by shuttle bus

There will be no trains to or from Rhoose station on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Years Day. Trains will finish early on 24 December and 31 December, and start later on 27 December. On Sunday 31 December buses will replace trains to and from Rhoose until 12:25 due to engineering work.
Doncaster Sheffield

Bus link from Doncaster Interchange (next to Doncaster station), which is served by CrossCountry, Virgin Trains East Coast, East Midlands Trains, TransPennine Express, Grand Central, Hull Trains and Northern).

East Midlands
Bus links from Nottingham, Derby, Long Eaton and East Midlands Parkway stations (served by CrossCountry, East Midlands Trains or Northern).

Edinburgh Bus link from Edinburgh station (served by CrossCountry, Virgin Trains East Coast, TransPennine Express, ScotRail and Virgin Trains). Tram link from Edinburgh Gateway and Edinburgh Park stations, both served by ScotRail.
No engineering work is planned in the Edinburgh area over the festive period.
There will be no ScotRail services in the Edinburgh area on 25 and 26 December, or on 1 January. Also, trains will finish early on 24 and 31 December, and there will be a late start on 2 January.
Trains run by operators from the south will run to Edinburgh on 1 January.
Exeter Bus link from Exeter St Davids station (served by CrossCountry, Great Western Railway and South Western Railway).

Gatwick Great Western Railway, Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink go to Gatwick Airport station (which is adjacent to the South Terminal airport building). A reduced Gatwick Express service will operate over the holiday period. No trains will run on 25 or 26 December, although a limited bus service will run between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport on 26 December.
Journeys on Southern to and from stations near Gatwick may be affected by engineering work over the holiday period between Purley and Earlswood.
Great Western Railway services between Reading and Gatwick Airport are replaced on some days by buses between Reigate and Gatwick Airport.
If you're planning to use Thameslink services, please note that between Saturday 23 December and Monday 1 January there will be no cross-London Thameslink service.
Glasgow Bus link from Paisley Gilmour Street or Glasgow Queen Street stations (both served by ScotRail) or Glasgow Central (served by Virgin Trains East Coast, CrossCountry, TransPennine Express, ScotRail and Virgin Trains). Heathrow
Heathrow Connect, Heathrow Express and London Underground Piccadilly Line serve stations at the airport Terminals
Major engineering work over the holiday period will affect services between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport.
There will be no Heathrow Express or Heathrow Connect service from 24 to 28 December inclusive, and a reduced service on other dates.

London City
Docklands Light Railway at London City Airport station (which is adjacent to the airport building). Docklands Light Railway service information is available here.
Luton Thameslink and East Midlands Trains (a frequent bus shuttle runs between Luton and Luton Airport Parkway stations and the airport terminal). If you're planning to travel on a direct train service from south of London, please note Thameslink will not be running through central London on some days.
Manchester Arriva Trains Wales, TransPennine Express and Northern at Manchester Airport station (which is adjacent to the airport building). Engineering work at Manchester Piccadilly over the holiday period may mean your train will take an alternative route on some days to and from Manchester Airport.
Newcastle Tyne & Wear Metro serve Newcastle Airport station (which is adjacent to the airport building). You can connect with Metro services to/from the airport from Newcastle station (which is served by CrossCountry, Virgin Trains East Coast, TransPennine Express and Northern). Newquay Bus link from Newquay station (served by Great Western Railway). No engineering work is planned to affect trains on the Newquay line over the holiday period.
Norwich Bus link from Norwich station (served by East Midlands Trains and Greater Anglia). Details of engineering work which may affect your journey will be published here when available.
Prestwick ScotRail at Prestwick International Airport station (which is adjacent to the airport building). Details of engineering work which may affect your journey will be published here when available.
Southampton CrossCountry and South Western Railway at Southampton Airport Parkway station (which is adjacent to the airport building). Major engineering work is taking place in the Southampton area throughout the holiday period, which may affect your journey to and from Southampton Airport Parkway station.
Southend Greater Anglia at Southend Airport station (which is next to the airport building). If you're travelling to or from London, major Crossrail work means there will be no trains between London Liverpool Street and Billericay on most days, but alternative transport will be available. Trains will be running on those days between Billericay and Southend Victoria, calling at Southend Airport.
Stansted CrossCountry, Greater Anglia and Stansted Express at Stansted Airport station (which is adjacent to the airport building). A normal service will run between London and Stansted Airport on Saturday 23, Wednesday 27, Thursday 28, Friday 29, Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 December. On Sunday 24 December trains will finish by approx. 22:00, and there will be no service on 25 or 26 December. On Monday 1 January, buses will replace Stansted Express trains until 13:00 because of engineering work, after 13:00 a Sunday service will run.
