Changes to train times

 

Virgin Trains services during Christmas and New Year 2018/19

Please find below a day-by-day summary of the services that Virgin Trains will be running over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holiday period.

Saturday 22 December

 

Normal service subject to engineering work.

Sunday 23 December

Monday 24 December

 

Services will start to wind down from 16:00 with trains stopping completely by about 20:00. 

Major improvement work is taking place at London Euston, closing some lines:

Services to / from London Euston will be reduced, with two per hour running between London Euston and West Midlands / Manchester Piccadilly.

Services to / from Holyhead will run between Crewe and Holyhead only. Services to / from Blackpool North, Shrewsbury and Wrexham General will not run.

The 16:40 London Euston to Edinburgh service will be diverted to run to Glasgow Central instead of Edinburgh.

 

From 21:15 on Monday 24 December until the end of service, trains will be diverted to run via Warrington Bank Quay (making an additional stop here), and will not call at Runcorn.

Replacement buses will run between Crewe / Liverpool Lime Street and Runcorn.

Tuesday 25 December

 

No service.

Wednesday 26 December

 

No service.

Thursday 27 December

 

Services across the Virgin Trains network will start slightly later than usual, but everything should be running normally by 10:00.

Services to / from London Euston will be reduced, with two per hour running between London Euston and West Midlands / Manchester Piccadilly.

Services to / from Holyhead will run between Crewe and Holyhead only. Services to / from Blackpool North, Shrewsbury and Wrexham General will not run.

 

Engineering work is taking place around Warrington Central, closing all lines:

Trains will be diverted to run via Warrington Bank Quay (making an additional stop here), and will not call at Runcorn.

Replacement buses will run between Crewe / Liverpool Lime Street and Runcorn.

Friday 28 December

 

Trains will be diverted to run via Warrington Bank Quay (making an additional stop here), and will not call at Runcorn.

Replacement buses will run between Crewe / Liverpool Lime Street and Runcorn.

Saturday 29 December

 

Trains will be diverted to run via Warrington Bank Quay (making an additional stop here), and will not call at Runcorn.

Replacement buses will run between Crewe / Liverpool Lime Street and Runcorn.

Sunday 30 December

 

Major improvement work is taking place at London Euston, closing some lines:

After 12:00, Services to / from London Euston will be reduced, with two per hour running between London Euston and West Midlands / Manchester Piccadilly.

Services to / from Holyhead will run between Crewe and Holyhead only. Services will not run between London Euston and Chester.

Additionally:

  • The 16:16 Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston service will not run.
  • The 20:08 London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street service will not run.
  • The 20:25 London Euston to Preston service will not run.
  • The 20:35 London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly service will be retimed to depart earlier at 20:25, and will additionally call at Tamworth and Lichfield Trent Valley.
  • The 20:18 London Euston to Wolverhampton service will terminate at Birmingham New Street.

Monday 31 January 2018

Tuesday 1 January 2019

Trains will be diverted to run via Warrington Bank Quay (making an additional stop here), and will not call at Runcorn.

Replacement buses will run between Crewe / Liverpool Lime Street and Runcorn.

 

Engineering work is taking place between Stafford and Wolverhampton, closing all lines:

Services will be diverted, and will not call at Wolverhampton. Replacement buses will run between Wolverhampton and Crewe until 12:00.

 

Engineering work is taking place in the Glasgow Central area on Tuesday, closing all lines:

Replacement buses will run between Carlisle and Glasgow Central. Services to / from Edinburgh will be retimed, with journeys between Carlisle and Edinburgh taking slightly longer than usual.
