Engineering work is taking place between Preston and Lancaster, closing the line over the Christmas Holiday period.

Please note, there is no scheduled service on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

No trains will run between Preston and Lancaster from Sunday 24 until Wednesday 27 December inclusive.

Caledonian Sleeper

On Christmas Eve, trains will not run.

On Wednesday 27 December, trains will be diverted to run on the East Coast Main Line. All services will be re-timed to run through Peterborough, Doncaster and Newcastle, and trains will not be able to call at Watford Junction, Crewe, Preston and Carlisle.

Northern and Virgin Trains

Buses will replace these trains between Preston and Lancaster.

TransPennine Express

On Christmas Eve, a revised service will operate on the Manchester to Scotland route. Trains will run between Lancaster and Scotland only. Road transport will run between Manchester Airport and Lancaster to connect with these train services.

Customers may also use alternative operators' road transport between Preston and Lancaster.

Ticket acceptance is also in place with Northern between Manchester Victoria and Preston; and with Virgin Trains between Wigan North Western and Preston.

On Wednesday 27 December, trains will run between Manchester Airport and Preston, and also between Lancaster and Scotland. Customers should use the replacement road transport provided between Preston and Lancaster.

Some trains may also be amended to terminate / start from an alternative location or cancelled entirely.

Check before you travel:

Please allow for an extended journey time of up to 60 minutes if you are travelling on the route between Preston and Lancaster.
