Engineering work is taking place near Newcastle station, reducing line capacity at the station throughout the week.


From Monday to Friday, the 06:01 Glasgow Central to Plymouth service will start from Edinburgh.

Until 1215 Saturday and from 1300 Sunday journey times on trains to and from Scotland that call at Newcastle will be extended by a few minutes. Newcastle - Reading/Southampton Central services will start and terminate at Durham.

From 1215 Saturday to 1300 Sunday CrossCountry replacement buses will operate between Darlington, Durham and Newcastle.


Buses will replace trains between Metrocentre and Newcastle throughout the week.

TransPennine Express

Most trains with the exception of some earlier morning and late night, will not run between York and Newcastle. As a result, there will be a greatly reduced service at Thirsk, Northallerton, Darlington, Durham and Chester-le-Street.

Replacement road transport will run between Durham and Newcastle. Customers can use alternative trains between York and Newcastle, these are provided by CrossCountry and Virgin Trains East Coast. Customers can also use Northern between Darlington, Durham and Newcastle.

Virgin Trains East Coast

Services will be diverted, extending journey times for Northbound services by up to 15 minutes.

Southbound services from Edinburgh will run 15 minutes earlier until Newcastle, thereafter they will run as scheduled.

From 12.15 Saturday 13 until 13.00 Sunday 14 January, Virgin Trains East Coast will run an hourly service between London Kings Cross and the Newcastle / Scotland taking a diversionary route between York and Newcastle with journey times extended by approximately 60 minutes, other services from London King’s Cross will start / terminate at Darlington.
