Engineering work is taking place between Glasgow Central and Motherwell, closing some lines.

Caledonian Sleeper

Trains will be retimed to depart earlier from Glasgow Central / Fort William / Inverness due to trains being diverted in the Motherwell area, arriving at London Euston normal time.

Trains departing from London Euston will have journey times slightly extended after leaving Carlisle.


Saturday, trains will not run between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh. Customers should use ScotRail services.

Sunday, customers should use ScotRail services between Glasgow Central and Motherwell and then replacement buses between Motherwell and Edinburgh.


Buses will replace trains between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Carstairs and also via Shotts.

The 10:20 Edinburgh to Glasgow Central and the 23:13 Edinburgh to Motherwell will be replaced by buses throughout.

TransPennine Express

Services between Manchester Airport and Edinburgh will operate between Manchester Airport and Carlisle only. Replacement buses will run between Carlisle and Edinburgh, calling at Lockerbie only. Customers travelling to / from Haymarket should use Edinburgh station, as buses will not call at Haymarket.

The 04:22 Glasgow Central to Manchester Airport service will terminate at Carlisle.

Virgin Trains

Buses will replace trains between Carlisle and Edinburgh.

Virgin Trains East Coast:

Saturday, 06:48 Glasgow Central to London Kings Cross will start from Edinburgh. Customers should use CrossCountry / ScotRail services between Glasgow Central and Motherwell and change for replacement bus to Edinburgh

Sunday, the 16:30 London Kings Cross to Glasgow Central will terminate at Edinburgh, A replacement bus will run between Edinburgh and Motherwell. Customers from Motherwell  should use CrossCountry / ScotRail services between Motherwell and Glasgow Central.
