The RMT trade union is currently in dispute with Northern over proposed changes to the role of the conductor. As a result of this, industrial action will be taken today.

Most trains will run between 7am and 7pm, though on a handful of routes, services will begin to wind down earlier.

Alternative transport:

Customers with advance purchase Northern tickets may use the following operators on reasonable routes:

Arriva Trains Wales, CrossCountry, East Midland Trains, TransPennine Express, Grand Central, Hull Trains, Virgin Trains East Coast and Virgin Trains.

Customers are advised to travel as close as possible to the original booked train times on these days.

Customers who have an advance ticket with a Northern origin or destination station, where Northern offer the connection using another train operator’s service, may use their tickets to travel tomorrow instead. This will be honoured by the following operators:

Arriva Trains Wales, Chiltern, c2c, CrossCountry, Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Grand Central, Greater Anglia, Great Western Railway, Hull Trains, London Northwestern Railway, ScotRail, Southeastern, Southern, Thameslink, TransPennine Express, West Midlands Railway, Virgin Trains East Coast and Virgin Trains.

Additional information:

On days where there is strike action, all running trains and any replacement buses are expected to be busy, especially in the morning and evening peak period. Please allow extra time to travel.

More information, including FAQs and background information on the strike is available on the Northern website.
