Changes to train times

 

Easter Travel Summary 2019

If you are travelling over the Easter weekend (from Friday 19 to Monday 22 April 2019), your journey may be affected by planned engineering work. Easter travel information is available below.

At Easter, some train companies may also be making changes to their usual timetable and some train times to match services to the number of customers travelling.

Major engineering work is taking place in the London Euston area, closing all lines to and from the station. There will be no trains at London Fenchurch Street and there will be an amended service between Preston and Glasgow Central and through Motherwell. Some lines through Wimbledon will also be closed all weekend. Information on all other line closures is available on our future engineering works page.

Below is a summary of the service that each train company will be running. Please choose the company you will be travelling with from the list:

c2c

 

From Friday 19 until Monday 22 April:

  • Trains will not run to / from London Fenchurch Street
  • Trains will not run between Barking and Grays via Rainham. Buses will run between Rainham / Purfleet and Upminster to connect with alternative train services and also between Dagenham Dock and Rainham

On Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday:
 
  • 2 trains per hour will run between London Liverpool Street and Shoeburyness via Basildon
  • 2 trains per hour will run between Grays and Southend Central
  • 2 trains per hour will run between Upminster and Grays
  • Trains will not call at Barking until after 07:00

On Easter Saturday:
 
  • 4 trains per hour will run between London Liverpool Street and Shoeburyness via Basildon
  • 2 trains per hour will run between Grays and Southend Central
  • 2 trains per hour will run between Upminster and Grays
  • Trains will not call at Barking until after 07:00
  • West Ham United are at home against Leicester City. Additional services will run before and after the match and services will be formed of 8 or 12 carriages

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be no District Line services between Aldgate East and Barking and no Hammersmith & City Line services between London Liverpool Street and Barking.

All weekend, DLR services will not run between Bank, Tower Gateway and Poplar / West India Quay.

Caledonian Sleeper

 

As a result of engineering work between London Euston and Wembley, services will be diverted to start and terminate at London Kings Cross, not calling at Watford Junction, Crewe, Preston or Carlisle.

Engineering work is also affecting services to and from Glasgow. On Friday, the Glasgow Sleepers will divert via an alternative route, not calling at Carstairs or Motherwell, with the sleeper from Glasgow towards London on Sunday doing the same.

Chiltern Railways

 
On Good Friday and Easter Monday, an amended Saturday timetable will operate. Trains will not call at Sudbury Hill Harrow or Sudbury & Harrow Road.

On Easter Saturday, an amended Saturday timetable will operate.

On Easter Sunday, an amended Sunday timetable will operate.

From Friday to Monday, a reduced service will run between London Marylebone and Amersham / Aylesbury Vale Parkway.

Services are expected to be busier than usual due to the closure of the West Coast Main Line and additional capacity will be provided on Chiltern Railways services between London and Birmingham Moor Street.

Trains will not call at stations between Birmingham Snow Hill and Kidderminster and buses will replace mainline trains to and from Kings Sutton, Hatton and Lapworth.

CrossCountry

 

From Friday 19 until Monday 22 April:

  • Buses will replace trains between Chepstow and Newport.
  • Trains between Manchester Piccadilly / Birmingham New Street and Reading / Southampton Central / Bournemouth that usually run via Birmingham International will be diverted, not calling at Birmingham International or Coventry. Buses will run between Birmingham International and Leamington Spa, calling at Coventry.

On Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday:

  • Buses will replace trains between Motherwell and Glasgow Central.

On Easter Sunday:
 
  • Services between Birmingham New Street and Southampton Central / Bournemouth will be diverted via an alternative route between Reading and Southampton Central, not calling at Basingstoke, Winchester or Southampton Airport Parkway. Buses will run between Reading, Basingstoke and Winchester.
  • Trains will not call at Wakefield Westgate. If you are travelling to / from Wakefield Westgate you should use alternative services to Doncaster or Leeds to connect with CrossCountry services.

East Midlands Trains

 
On Easter Saturday, some trains between London St Pancras International and Nottingham / Derby / Sheffield will be cancelled.

On Easter Sunday:

  • Trains to and from London St Pancras International will run to an amended timetable, with some trains departing earlier than normal and not calling at Derby or Long Eaton. Rail replacement buses will be provided between Derby and Long Eaton.
  • Engineering work in the Edge Hill area means that trains between Norwich / Nottingham and Liverpool Lime Street will be diverted, not calling at Warrington Central, Widnes or Liverpool South Parkway. Trains will call additionally at Newton-le-Willows, where customers can use replacement buses to and from Warrington Central and Widnes.

Gatwick Express

 

On Good Friday and Easter Saturday, there will be no service.

On Easter Sunday, an amended, half hourly service will run.

On Easter Monday, a Saturday service will operate. 4 trains per hour will run between London and Gatwick Airport.

Grand Central

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting Grand Central services.

Great Northern

 

On Good Friday and Easter Monday, an amended service will operate.

On Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday, a normal service will run.

Great Western Railway

 

From Good Friday until Easter Monday:

On Easter Sunday:
 

Greater Anglia

 

From Good Friday until Easter Monday:

  • Buses will replace trains between Shenfield and Southend Victoria and between Wickford and Southminster.
  • Sheringham station is closed for major improvement work and buses will replace trains between Cromer and Sheringham.
  • Buses will replace trains between Ipswich and Felixstowe.
  • The line between Reedham and Great Yarmouth via Berney Arms is closed. All trains which usually travel via Berney Arms will travel via Acle.

On Easter Sunday:

  • Trains will not run between London Liverpool Street and Hackney Downs until 09:50. Until this time, trains will be diverted via an alternative route, extending journey times slightly.
  • Buses will replace trains between Norwich and Great Yarmouth / Lowestoft.
  • Buses will replace trains between Ipswich and Norwich / Bury St Edmunds.

Heathrow Express

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting Heathrow Express services.

Hull Trains

 

A normal service will operate on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday.

On Easter Monday, the 06:00 Beverley to London Kings Cross and 07:27 London Kings Cross to Hull services will not run.

Island Line

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting Island Line services.

London North Eastern Railway

 

On Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, LNER services will not run between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Buses will run between Edinburgh and Motherwell. If you are travelling to / from Glasgow you will be able to use alternative train services (operated by ScotRail) between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

London Northwestern Railway

 

From Good Friday until Easter Monday:


On Easter Sunday, trains between Birmingham New Street / Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street will run between Birmingham New Street / Crewe and Liverpool South Parkway only. Customers can use Merseyrail services between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime Street.

London Overground

 

From Good Friday until Easter Monday, trains will not run to or from London Euston.

On Good Friday and Easter Monday, an amended service of three trains per hour will run between Kilburn High Road and Watford Junction. If you are travelling between London and Watford, you will be able to use London Underground services between London and Queens Park / Kilburn Park.

On Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday, a normal service will run between Kilburn High Road and Watford Junction.

From Good Friday to Easter Monday, buses will replace trains between Gospel Oak and Barking.

On Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday, trains will not run between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction. Customers should use London Buses for stations between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction.

On Easter Sunday:

  • Trains will not run between Sydenham and Crystal Palace. Customers should use London Buses between Sydenham and Crystal Palace
  • Trains will not run between London Liverpool Street and Enfield Town / Cheshunt / Chingford until approximately 09:50. Buses will run between Seven Sisters and Enfield Town / Cheshunt and also between Hackney Downs and Chingford and ticket acceptance is in place with London Buses and London Underground via any reasonable route.

Merseyrail

 

On Good Friday and Easter Monday, a Saturday service will run on all routes.

From Good Friday until Easter Sunday, buses will replace trains between West Kirby and Birkenhead North.

Northern

 

On Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday:

From 11:55 on Easter Saturday until 12:00 on Easter Monday, buses will replace trains between Wigan North Western and Preston.

ScotRail

 

From Easter Saturday until Easter Monday:

South Western Railway

 

From Good Friday until Easter Monday, an amended South Western Railway service will run as a result of engineering work in the Wimbledon area.

On Easter Sunday, buses will replace trains between Basingstoke and Winchester / Andover.

Southeastern

 

From Good Friday to Easter Sunday, trains will not run on the Woolwich or Bexleyheath Lines.

On Easter Sunday:

Southern

 
On Good Friday and Easter Saturday, an amended timetable will run with a reduced service to / from London Victoria. Some services will be diverted to run to / from London Bridge.

From Good Friday to Easter Monday, trains will not run between Clapham Junction and Milton Keynes Central.

On Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, an amended timetable will run. The following alterations will also apply:

Stansted Express

 

There is no planned engineering work affecting Stansted Express services.  

Thameslink

 

From Good Friday until Easter Monday, services will be amended due to engineering work in the London St Pancras International area:

  • On Good Friday and Easter Saturday, trains will not call at Kentish Town. Buses will run between West Hampstead Thameslink and London St Pancras International, calling at Kentish Town.
  • On Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday, there will be no direct service through London; trains will run between Bedford and London St Pancras International (upper level). You will be able to change at London St Pancras International for services towards London Blackfriars, Sutton, Brighton and Rainham.
  • Until 08:50 on Easter Sunday, buses will replace trains between Mill Hill Broadway and London St Pancras International.
  • All day on Easter Sunday, no trains will run between London St Pancras International and London Bridge / Wimbledon.


From Good Friday to Easter Monday, trains between Luton and Rainham will only run between Dartford and Rainham.

Customers should use alternative Thameslink trains between Luton and London St Pancras International and London Underground and Southeastern services between London St Pancras International and Dartford to connect with trains from / to Rainham.

TfL Rail

 

On Good Friday and Easter Monday, a Saturday service will run between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield.

TransPennine Express

 

Manchester area

There will be NO DIRECT trains to / from Manchester Airport. Frequent alternative services are available between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly.

Between Lancaster and Scotland

On Saturday, Sunday and Monday (until 12:00) coaches will replace trains between Lancaster and Carlisle calling at Oxenholme and Penrith, extending journey times by approx 75 minutes.

All day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday coaches will replace trains between Carlisle and Edinburgh calling at Lockerbie with journey times extended by approx 85 minutes.

No coaches can call at Haymarket - customers should use Edinburgh station instead.

Customers travelling between Scotland and Manchester are advised to use services routed via Newcastle and Leeds.

Transport for Wales

 

From Good Friday until Easter Monday, buses will replace trains between Gloucester and Newport.

On Easter Sunday, trains between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly will be diverted, not calling at Warrington Bank Quay. Replacement buses will run between Chester and Manchester Piccadilly via Warrington Bank Quay.

Virgin Trains

 

From Good Friday until Easter Monday:

From Easter Saturday until Easter Monday:

Trains between Crewe and Preston will be diverted via but not calling at Manchester Piccadilly. Replacement coaches will run between Crewe and Preston calling at Warrington Bank Quay and Wigan North Western.

Buses will replace trains between Preston / Lancaster and Carlisle and between Carlisle and Glasgow Central. Customers travelling to / from Edinburgh should use TransPennine Express coaches between Carlisle and Edinburgh.

On Easter Sunday:

Trains to / from Liverpool Lime Street will be diverted and cannot call at Runcorn. Replacement buses will run between Crewe and Runcorn and between Runcorn and Liverpool Lime Street.

 

West Midlands Railway

 

On Good Friday and Easter Monday, a Saturday service will run between Birmingham and Worcester / Hereford / Shrewsbury.
