The line is currently closed between Harlech and Pwllheli, and buses are replacing trains between these stations.

This is because work is taking place to replace the old wooden Pont Briwet road and railway viaduct over the Afon Dwyryd near Llandecwyn, which has been declared structurally unsafe and has closed. A new bridge is being built to carry two lanes of road traffic and a single track railway.

Storms in December 2013 also severely damaged the line, but repairs have now been completed.

Once work on the railway side of the bridge is completed, the line will re-open. The current estimated date for the line to re-open is 1 September 2014.
