What to do in Bath

A city of wellbeing known for the famous Roman baths, the town is surrounded by beautiful Georgian architecture with remains of Roman archaeological sites.

Delve into the history of the spa town as you visit the original Roman Baths. They stream 1,170,000 litres of naturally warm spring water, reaching 46°C, into the site every day. The ruins are an interactive museum where you can walk around and learn about the history of the site and even take a sip of the spa water that drew so many visitors over the centuries due to its curative properties.

If you fancy getting in on the action, Thermae Bath Spa is where you can experience the naturally warm and mineral-rich waters in a more modern setting along with contemporary treatments, if desired.

Once rejuvenated, take a wander around and experience the town and its local delicacies, like the Sally Lunn Bun, named after a Huguenot refugee who arrived in 1680. Sally started to work with a baker, introducing them to her brioche-style bun which became popular at breakfasts and afternoon teas with the recipe being a closely guarded secret to this day. You can sample the buns as well as a lot of other tasty foods, at Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House and Museum.

You could also learn about one of Bath’s most famous residents at the Jane Austen Centre, which is dedicated to the author and her work, and also hosts an annual festival.
