What to do in Dundee
Scotland’s sunniest city and also a UNESCO City of Design, Dundee is a thriving hub of culture and innovation with a down to earth atmosphere.
Enjoy a number of scenic green spaces around Dundee, whether you are after a place to relax like Slessor Gardens, located close to the city centre, or something a bit more adventurous at Monikie County Park where a lot of activities are offered on-site.
Explore the city’s maritime past and the many museums and galleries. V&A Dundee is Scotland’s first design museum and the first V&A outside of London. The stunning architectural building by renowned, award-winning Japanese architects Kengo Kuma & Associates, was designed to represent a Scottish cliff face. The museum showcases Scottish design and its international impact through the past and present, as well as collections from around the world.
While there are plenty of choices for places to eat in the city, have a lookout for Dundee cake. It was said to be created for Mary, Queen of Scots because of her dislike for glacé cherries in her fruitcake. The rich fruit cake uses blanched almonds instead of cherries and is often distinguished by arranging them in concentric circles on top.
