Getting to Heathrow Airport by Train

Heathrow Airport is very well connected by rail. The Heathrow Express is the speediest option, whisking you direct from London Paddington to Terminals 2&3 in just 15 minutes, or Terminal 5 in 21 minutes. Trains leave every 15 minutes, with services starting at 4:51 and running until 23:25.

The Elizabeth Line also runs from Paddington, stopping at all Heathrow terminals, and takes around 30 to 35 minutes from Paddington. The Elizabeth line also provides direct routes from other locations such as Reading and Shenfield.

You can use contactless payments and Oyster on both the Heathrow Express and Elizabeth Line.

Food and drink at Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Airport has dining options to suit all tastes and budgets. You’ll find Pret A Manger, Caffè Nero and other quick options before security. After security, each Terminal has plenty more places for eating and drinking.

Terminal 2’s dining options include Leon, Shan Shui and London’s Pride. Terminal 3 has The Curator and Spuntino. Terminal 4 features The Commission and Star Light. Terminal 5 has Gordon Ramsay Plane Food along with the Fortnum & Mason bar and restaurant, Giraffe and Wagamama.

Shopping at Heathrow Airport

Each terminal has shops like WHSmith and Boots located before and after security for essentials. Most other shops are are located “airside” (after security), so you can pick up what you need or browse before you fly.

Duty-free shopping is available after security in World Duty Free at all terminals, for big discounts on beauty, alcohol, accessories and more.

Heathrow boasts an impressive collection of high-end and designer stores. You’ll find Mulberry, Ted Baker, and John Lewis in Terminal 2, and Cartier, Hermès, and Gucci in Terminal 3, while Terminal 5 features a luxury shopping avenue with Chanel, Rolex, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., Burberry, and Harrods.

Children and families at Heathrow airport

Heathrow is very family friendly. There are baby changing facilities throughout the aiport, and play areas to keep the little ones entertained. Many restaurants offer children's menus and high chairs, and some also have “kids eat free” offers during holidays. Bottle warming facilities are also available. Plus there are dedicated family security lanes to help you get through with less stress.

Hotels at Heathrow Airport

If you’ve got an early flight or a long time between connecting flights, several hotels are conveniently located within Heathrow airport or directly connected to it, and are easy to get to on foot.

For Terminal 2, the Hilton Garden Inn is within walking distance. The Aerotel London in Terminal 3 offers flexible hourly bookings, perfect for short layovers or early departures. The Hilton London Heathrow Airport and the Premier Inn Heathrow are both connected via a covered walkway to Terminal 4. The Sofitel London Heathrow is also directly connected to Terminal 5 via a covered walkway.

You can use the Heathrow Hotel Hoppa bus service to get to your hotel, and there are also some free modes of transport between terminals available, such as the H30 bus.
