Getting to Gatwick Airport by train

The Gatwick Express is the dedicated train service connecting London Victoria to Gatwick Airport in just 30 minutes. This non-stop service runs every 30 minutes from around 5:00 to 23:00. Regular Southern and Thameslink services also serve Gatwick from Victoria and other London stations including London Bridge, London Blackfriars, and St Pancras International, and these trains also run throughout the day and night, ensuring you can reach the airport for those early morning or late-night flights.

Beyond London, direct train services connect Gatwick to cities including Brighton (30 minutes), Portsmouth (1 hour 30 minutes), Southampton (1 hour 30 minutes), and Reading (1 hour 15 minutes). The Thameslink network also provides direct connections to Cambridge, Bedford, and other destinations north of London.

Both contactless payment and Oyster cards are accepted on trains between London and Gatwick, making ticketing hassle-free. However, it’s worth noting that Oyster coverage ends at Gatwick – if you’re travelling beyond, you’ll need a separate ticket for the remainder of your journey.
