What to do in Derby

Derby is known for manufacturing the world’s finest tableware. Established in 1750, Royal Crown Derby creates fine bone china and has serviced Royalty and some of the world’s finest establishments. Drop into the Visitor Centre to learn about the history and the level of craftsmanship that goes into their china and be sure to book in advance for their factory tours.

Pyclets are one of Derby’s best-kept secrets. Like a cross between a crumpet and a pancake, they were made in 1864 by the Monk family in their Edward Street bakery and were sold until the 1970s. The bakery was then turned into housing, until one day a man buying his first home in the property was told the story by his conveyancing solicitor. From there he decided to revive the recipe and open a bakery in Derby’s Market Hall.

The Market Hall itself has been running since 1866 and to this day offers a range of goods, vintage clothing and food all by local businesses. A great way to spend a rainy day!
