What to do in Cheltenham

It’s home to the world-famous racecourse, but this town has much more to offer, especially if a rejuvenating trip with a bit of class is what you’re after.

Wander down the Promenade for a Parisian-esque boulevard and shop to your heart's content, or indulge in some fine dining and spa treatments if you’re after something really special.

Cheltenham was the birthplace of Gustav Holst, composer of The Planets. The Holst Birthplace Museum is set up in the very house he was born in. It’s a 19th-century Victorian time capsule where visitors can wander through the building and see the still-working Victorian kitchen and various rooms of the house, including Holst’s music room where his life history is displayed with the piano he composed The Planets on.

Foodies will enjoy Cheltenham’s dining scene, with an impressive variety of high street, independent, award-winning and Michelin star-rated restaurants. There are also a number of food festivals running throughout the year.

Rivalling Bath as a spa town, after a spring was discovered back in 1716, Cheltenham has a great selection of spa facilities and would make a perfect romantic getaway, trip with the girls or even as a way to treat yourself!
