What to do in Penzance

Penzance in West Cornwall is steeped in history with all the modern facilities to cater to the needs of today’s visitors and locals alike. Explore the town’s heritage with its historic sites, or stroll along one of the many beaches and cliffs for the scenery, which also inspired Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera, The Pirates of Penzance.

Penzance is home to a number of galleries and museums ranging from Penlee House Gallery and Museum, a former manor house displaying exhibits of the town’s local history dating back to the Stone Age, to more modern galleries featuring regular displays of work from local to international artists.

Chapel Street is one of the oldest streets in Penzance, which is now home to a quirky mix of historic houses, one of which was home of Maria Branwell (mother of the Bronte sisters), pubs and independent shops. 

Penzance’s mild climate means a beautiful display of greenery throughout the year. Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens combines nature and art, with displays of sculptures and installations that fit in beautifully with the dramatic landscape of the town.
