West Highland Line upgrades: buses replace trains between Crianlarich and Fort William / Mallaig from Monday 9 to Tuesday 17 November

Description

Engineering work is taking place between Upper Tyndrum and Fort William / Mallaig, closing all lines. Background information on the work can be found below.

From Monday 9 to Tuesday 17 November, buses will replace trains between Crianlarich, Fort William and Mallaig.

An additional bus service will run between Tulloch, Roy Bridge, Spean Bridge and Fort William. Rannoch and Corrour will not be served by trains or bus services.

Trains between Crianlarich and Oban will run normally.

Background information:

Network Rail will be carrying out £13m worth of upgrades to help keep the West Highland Line, one of Scotland's most famous railway routes, running safely and reliably.

Teams of engineers will be working at locations between Helensburgh, Fort William and Mallaig to renew parts of the track, improve drainage and maintain key railway structures. The project includes:

• Renewing more than 4km of worn track at locations between Helensburgh and Mallaig, including near Arisaig, Corrour, in the Loch nan Uamh and Beasdale tunnels, at Arrochar & Tarbet station and on Gleann Mama Viaduct

• Improving drainage and renewing culverts, including between Glen Douglas and Arrochar & Tarbet

• Refurbishing Fassfern Bridge near Spean Bridge and removing a redundant bridge near Loch Eil

• Clearing vegetation between Fort William and Arisaig
