Description

Engineering work is taking place between Warrington Bank Quay / Preston and Lancaster / Oxenholme Lake District / Carlisle / Carstairs / Edinburgh / Glasgow Central, closing various lines.

From Saturday 4 to Monday 6 April:

All lines are closed between:

  • Carlisle and Edinburgh / Glasgow Central via Lockerbie

On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 April:

All lines are closed between:

  • Preston and Oxenholme Lake District

On Sunday 5 April:

All lines are closed between:

  • Warrington Bank Quay and Wigan North Western

Avanti West Coast:

Due to additional engineering work taking place between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central, the following service will operate:

1 train per hour will run between:

  • Milton Keynes Central and Manchester Piccadilly via Stoke-on-Trent (calls additionally at Rugby)

  • Milton Keynes Central and Liverpool Lime Street (calls additionally at Nuneaton)

  • Milton Keynes Central and Preston (via Nuneaton and calls additionally at Rugby, Stafford and Crewe. On Sunday, these trains will also divert via Manchester Piccadilly, not calling)

  • Rugby and Preston via Birmingham New Street

  • Trains between London Euston and Holyhead, will operate between Crewe and Holyhead only

The following additional service amendment applies on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 April only.

A once every 2 hour service will run between:

  • Preston and Carlisle (via Settle)

Replacement bus services will be provided between:

  • Carlisle and Motherwell (Saturday and Monday)

  • Carlisle and Glasgow Central (Sunday only)

  • Crewe and Wigan North Western via Warrington Bank Quay (Sunday only)

For travel between Motherwell and Glasgow Central on Saturday and Monday, you can use ScotRail train services at no extra cost.

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on ScotRail services between Carlisle and Glasgow Central via Dumfries. Please note that this is a limited train service.

For travel between Wigan North Western and Preston on Sunday, you should use Northern or TransPennine Express train services at no extra cost.

For travel between Lockerbie and Edinburgh you can use TransPennine Express replacement bus services at no extra cost.

CrossCountry:

No CrossCountry services will run between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central.

Replacement buses will run between Edinburgh and Motherwell. For travel to / from Glasgow Central, you should use other train services.

Northern:

On Saturday and Sunday, the train services are amended as follows:

  • Train services between Leeds and Lancaster / Morecambe will start / terminate at Skipton. Replacement buses will be provided between Skipton and Carnforth via Morecambe

  • Train services between Lancaster and Morecambe / Heysham Port will be replaced by buses throughout

  • Train services between Lancaster / Preston and Barrow-in-Furness will now start / terminate from Grange-over-Sands

  • Train services will not run between Oxenholme Lake District and Windermere

A replacement bus service will be provided between Oxenholme Lake District and Windermere, and between Lancaster and Grange-over-Sands. Arnside and Silverdale will be served by a mini bus service to / from Carnforth.

Bus services between Preston, Lancaster and Oxenholme Lake District will be provided by TransPennine Express at no extra cost.

ScotRail:

ScotRail services between Carlisle and Glasgow Central will be amended to support cross-border passengers.

Where possible, longer trains will operate.

ScotRail train services are altered as follows:

Saturday:

  • 10:13 Glasgow Central to Carlisle will replace the 10:13 train from Glasgow Central to Kilmarnock and the 12:01 train from Dumfries to Carlisle

  • 11:11 Carlisle to Dumfries will depart later at 11:15 from Carlisle and will run later throughout

  • 13:06 Carlisle to Glasgow Central will replace the 13:06 train from Carlisle to Dumfries and the 14:59 train from Kilmarnock to Glasgow Central

  • 14:08 Carlisle to Glasgow Central will depart later at 14:14 from Carlisle

  • 20:10 Carlisle to Glasgow Central will replace the 19:24 train from Carlisle to Dumfries and the 20:49 train from Dumfries to Glasgow Central

TransPennine Express:

Saturday and Sunday:

Trains will run to an amended timetable between:

  • Manchester Airport / Liverpool Lime Street and Preston

  • Oxenholme Lake District and Carlisle

Monday:

Trains will run to an amended timetable between:

  • Manchester Airport and Carlisle

Rail replacement buses will operate between:

  • Preston and Oxenholme Lake District (Saturday and Sunday)

  • Carlisle and Edinburgh (Saturday, Sunday and Monday)

For travel between Carlisle and Motherwell / Glasgow Central, you can use Avanti West Coast replacement bus services at no extra cost.

You can use ScotRail services between Motherwell and Glasgow Central at no extra cost.

For travel between Liverpool Lime Street and Preston on Monday, you should use other train services.
