Description

Engineering work is taking place between Gathurst and Southport, closing all lines. Background information on the work can be found below.

Trains between Manchester stations and Southport will start / terminate at Wigan Wallgate or Wigan North Western.

Buses will operate between Wigan Wallgate and Southport.

Background information:

Network Rail will be replacing ageing track near Parbold. This vital engineering work involves teams replacing sections of track, as well as sleepers and ballast, as the current track is nearing the end of its life. Once completed, this will lead to better ride quality and a reduction in delays and speed restrictions in the area.
