Description
Engineering work is taking place on the footbridge at Tackley, closing platform 2.
From Friday 12 June 2026 through until Friday 30 April 2027, trains in the Oxford direction (southbound) will not stop at Tackley station. This is so that a permanent footbridge with lifts can be installed at the station for passengers to cross between the platforms (see background information below).
Trains running towards Banbury (northbound) will continue to call at Tackley as normal.
If you are travelling from Tackley towards Oxford, your travel options are as follows:
Travel from Heyford station instead (3.5 miles away by road)
Catch a train northbound and change at Heyford station. You should cross to the opposite platform upon arrival at Heyford station, and catch a southbound train towards Oxford
Catch the Stagecoach S4 bus service from Tackley village which stops at Oxford Parkway station for onward train connections before continuing to Oxford city centre
If you are travelling to Tackley from the Banbury direction, your travel options are as follows:
Travel from Heyford station instead (3.5 miles away by road)
Catch the Stagecoach S4 bus service from Banbury bus station (approximately 6 minute distance from Banbury station) to Tackley village
Catch a train to Heyford station then travel a short distance to Heyford Bridge bus stop and catch the Stagecoach S4 bus service to Tackley village from there.
Please note, if you choose to travel using the Stagecoach bus route mentioned above, this will be at your own cost.
If you are a disabled passenger or a passenger with reduced mobility or additional needs and you are wishing to travel to or from Tackley, please call Great Western Railway's passenger assistance team on 0800 197 1329.
Background information:
In June 2026, work will begin to build a new footbridge with two lifts at Tackley station. The bridge will be built on the site of the current, temporary, scaffold bridge. Network Rail aim to open the new bridge in spring 2027, with the lifts to follow later in the year.
To allow the new bridge to be built the southbound platform, for trains towards Oxford, will be closed. No trains will call at this platform until the new bridge opens. More information on the work taking place, and how it affects Tackley village, can be found on the Network Rail website.
