British Transport Police’s text 61016 service helps you contact police discreetly to report any non-emergency crimes or incidents on trains and at stations.
We want you to feel comfortable while you’re travelling. You can report anything that’s inappropriate, doesn’t look right or makes you feel unsafe.
Text 61016 provides a way to report any offence, anywhere on Britain’s railways, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Contact handlers monitor messages 24/7 and pass details on to BTP officers on the ground if they need to be deployed to help. If you’re at a station they can meet you there, or if you’re on a train they can meet you at the next stop.

If the situation is an emergency, call 999.
You can also Text 61016 to report a non-emergency incident directly from the National Rail app. From the menu, select Report an Incident (Text 61016). Fill in the details and it will populate a text message to send straight to the British Transport Police.

Try to include as many details in your message as you can, to help Police take action quickly. For example, try to include information such as the time, which train you’re on and what the perpetrator looks like.
Mobile service providers may issue a small charge to text 61016. The exact cost will depend on your network and tariff.
If you have blocked premium rate numbers or are out of credit, you may not be able to text 61016.
