Description

A fault on a train at Adlington means that some lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between Preston and Bolton may be delayed by up to 50 minutes, cancelled, revised or diverted.

Disruption is expected until 20:00.

Northern customer advice:

To assist customers to complete their journey, road replacement transport will be provided as follows.

Two coaches operated by S Line will depart Preston at 18:20 calling at stations to Bolton.

A coach operated by Ocean Travel will depart Bolton at 18:53 calling at stations to Preston.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

Trains on the following routes will divert and not call at Bolton:

  • Edinburgh - Manchester Airport

  • Glasgow Central - Manchester Airport

Rail Replacement transport has been requested to run from Preston to Bolton. Please see station information boards or a member of staff for details of pick up points.

If you are travelling to Bolton, you can use your ticket at no extra cost on the next available Northern or TransPennine Express service to Bolton from Preston.
