Description

Following a safety inspection of the track earlier today in the Amberley area, trains have to run at reduced speed on the line towards Horsham. Trains running between Arundel and Horsham may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 15:00.

Customer advice:

A safety inspection of the track near Amberley was causing disruption to trains between Arundel and Horsham.

You may face some residual delays or alterations to your journey. Please allow at least an extra 30 minutes to complete your journey.

Service alterations:

Southern expect the following changes to our service:

  • Trains that normally run between London Victoria and Portsmouth Harbour will not split at Horsham and will terminate at Bognor Regis. If you require stations between Barnham and Portsmouth / Southampton Central, you will need to change at Barnham. From there you can use alternative Southern services to reach your destination. If you require Portsmouth Harbour, you will need to change at Fratton or Portsmouth & Southsea for Great Western Railway or South Western Railway services. You can use your existing ticket at no extra cost

  • Services that run between Southampton Central and Brighton will stop additionally at Fishbourne, Bosham, Nutbourne and Warblington

Please note using an alternative route will take more time than usual. please allow at least an extra 30 minutes to reach your destination.

Ticket Acceptance:

You can use your existing ticket at no extra cost on the following services:

  • Alternative Southern services between the south coast and London

  • Great Western Railway services between Southampton, Portsmouth and London

  • London Underground between all London terminals

  • South Western Railway services between Southampton, Portsmouth and London Waterloo

Can you tell me more about the incident?

There was an earlier report of a possible issue with the track in this area. Network Rail's engineers have attendedand have now put a speed restriction in place.

There are various different types of defects, and the first advice usually comes from drivers or other staff travelling through the area. Response staff will check the location which has been specified and find out whether the track is still supported correctly, whether the rails themselves are in the usual condition, and if there are any problems with the fixings and metalwork which attach the rails to the sleepers.

There may be some residual disruption until services returns to normal.
