Description

Damage to the overhead wires between Peterborough and Stevenage means that all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, severely delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

Doncaster is heavily congested due to this issue, which may affect other routes through this station.

Major disruption is expected until 15:00.

Grand Central customer advice:

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on the following:

• Avanti West Coast between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston

• CrossCountry services:

  • between Peterborough and Cambridge

  • between Leicester and Peterborough

  • between Newcastle and Birmingham

• East Midlands Railway between Sheffield / Leicester and London St Pancras International

• Great Northern services between Cambridge and London Kings Cross

• Greater Anglia services between Ely and London Kings Cross

• LNER services between Newcastle / Leeds and Peterborough

• Northern and TransPennine Express on any reasonable route

You can also use your ticket at no extra cost on London Underground services between London stations for the above connections.

Road transport has also been requested to run between Peterborough and Ely to help you complete your journey using the above connections.

Great Northern / Thameslink customer advice:

You will need to use an alternative route to complete your journey and allow at least 60 minutes more time to travel.

No services are able to run between Peterborough and Hitchin, meaning the following stations will not be served until further notice:

• Arlesey

• Biggleswade

• Sandy

• St Neots

• Huntingdon

• Peterborough

A train shuttle service is being introduced to run between Peterborough, Huntingdon and St Neots. Please check information screens or speak to station staff for further information.

Trains that normally run between Brighton and Cambridge will terminate and restart at Finsbury Park or London Kings Cross. If you are travelling between Brighton and Cambridge, you will need to change trains at Finsbury Park or London Kings Cross/ London St Pancras International to complete your journey.

Tickets will be accepted at no extra cost on:

• Great Northern and Thameslink services between Hitchin and Ely

• Greater Anglia services between Cambridge and Peterborough

• East Midlands Railway services between Ely and Peterborough

• CrossCountry Railway services between Cambridge and Peterborough

Rail replacement buses have been requested and will form a shuttle service between Peterborough and Hitchin. Currently there is no estimate for the arrival times of these buses, but we will update you as soon as those have been confirmed.

If you are travelling to / from Peterborough

Great Northern and Thameslink recommend travelling via Cambridge or Ely using Greater Anglia, CrossCountry or East Midlands Railway services to connect with Peterborough. Tickets are being accepted at no extra cost between Ely and Hitchin on Great Northern and Thameslink services.

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Train services are currently being disrupted because overhead electric wires have been damaged and are down in the area.

For the safety of customers, staff and emergency responders, train services through the affected area have been suspended or severely restricted while specialist engineers assess the damage and begin repair work.

Overhead line equipment carries high-voltage electricity and extensive safety checks must be completed before any repairs can take place and train services can safely resume. Recovery and repair work can be complex and may take some time, particularly if multiple sections of equipment have been damaged.

As a result, trains may be delayed, revised, cancelled or unable to operate through the affected area.

Great Northern / Thameslink strongly recommend checking your journey before travelling and allowing extra time if you need to travel today.
