Residual delays between Arundel and Horsham expected until 18:00

Description

Following a safety inspection of the track earlier today in the Amberley area, trains have to run at reduced speed on the line towards Horsham. Trains running between Arundel and Horsham may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 18:00.

A safety inspection of the track near Amberley was causing disruption to trains between Arundel and Horsham.

You may face some residual delays or alterations to your journey. Please allow at least an extra 30 minutes to complete your journey.

Service alterations:

The following changes remain in place:

• Trains that normally run between London Victoria and Portsmouth Harbour will not divide at Horsham and will instead terminate and restart at Bognor Regis

  • If you are travelling to stations between Barnham and Portsmouth & Southsea , you should change at Barnham and use alternative Southern services

  • If you are travelling to stations between Havant and Portsmouth Harbour, you should change at Barnham and then again at Havant or Fratton for alternative South Western Railway or Great Western Railway services

  • Southern services between Brighton and Southampton will make additional stops at Warblington, Nutbourne, Bosham and Fishbourne

• Southern services between Brighton and Portsmouth & Southsea are running as normal but may be delayed by up to 25 minutes

• If you are travelling from the South Coast towards London, you may find it quicker to travel via Guildford using South Western Railway services and then change at London Waterloo for London Underground connections to other London terminals

Please note that alternative routes may take longer than usual. We recommend allowing at least 30 minutes of additional journey time.

There was an earlier report of a possible issue with the track in this area. Network Rail's engineers have attended and have now put a speed restriction in place.

There are various different types of defects, and the first advice usually comes from drivers or other staff travelling through the area. Response staff will check the location which has been specified and find out whether the track is still supported correctly, whether the rails themselves are in the usual condition, and if there are any problems with the fixings and metalwork which attach the rails to the sleepers.

There may be some residual disruption until services returns to normal.
