Description

A road vehicle colliding with a bridge at Blackburn means some lines are blocked. As a result, trains through this area may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.

Disruption is expected until 16:30.

What's happened?

Services through Blackburn are being disrupted due to a road vehicle colliding with a bridge.

Network Rail staff are due on site at 13:30.

How does this affect my journey?

Train services are unable to run between Blackburn and Accrington (in both directions).

Services on the following route will terminate and start at Hebden Bridge:

  • Between York - Blackpool North


Services on the following route will terminate and start at Accrington:

  • Between Headbolt Lane - Blackburn


Services on the following route will terminate and start at Blackburn:

  • Between Preston - Colne

Northern services on the following routes are not affected by this disruption but maybe delayed:

  • Between Blackpool North - Manchester Airport

  • Between Leeds - Manchester Victoria

  • Between Rochdale - Blackburn/Clitheroe

What should I do?

You can travel on alternative Northern services between Preston, Bolton and Manchester to complete your journey.

You can also travel on TransPennine Express services at no extra cost on the following routes in both directions:

  • Leeds and Manchester

  • Manchester and Preston

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Replacement transport:

Road transport will be operated by S Line and Phantom as follows:

  • From Blackburn to Colne. Calling at Rishton, Church & Oswaldtwistle, Accrington, Huncoat, Hapton, Rose Grove, Burnley Barracks, Burnley Central, Brierfield, Nelson and Colne, at 13:55.

  • From Colne to Blackburn. Calling at Nelson, Brierfield, Burnley Central, Burnley Barracks, Rose Grove, Hapton, Huncoat, Accrington, Church & Oswaldtwistle, Rishton and Blackburn, at 14:10.

Journey times may be extended by up to 60 minutes whilst travelling by road transport.
