Description

A fault with the signalling system at Burscough Bridge means that all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between Wigan Wallgate and Southport may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Disruption is expected until 11:00.

How does this affect my journey?

Train services between Wigan Wallgate and Southport (in both directions) are being disrupted after a fault with the signalling system has re-occurred.

Northern services between Wigan North Western and Liverpool Lime Street are not affected.

What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

You can also travel on Merseyrail services at no extra cost between Liverpool and Southport.

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Replacement transport:

Road transport will be operated by Bestway as follows:

From Wigan Wallgate to Southport, calling at Gathurst, Appley Bridge, Parbold, Hoscar, Burscough Bridge, New Lane, Bescar Lane, Meols Cop and Southport, at 08:00 / 09:00.

From Southport to Wigan Wallgate, calling at Meols Cop, Bescar Lane, New Lane, Burscough Bridge, Hoscar, Parbold, Appley Bridge, Gathurst and Wigan Wallgate, at 08:30 / 09:30.

Journey times may be extended by up to 60 minutes whilst travelling by road transport.
