Trains at Castleford

Description

A fault with the signalling system in the Castleford area means all lines are disrupted. As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Disruption is expected until 09:00.

Northern customer advice:

Train services are unable to run between Leeds and Castleford (in both directions).

Services on the following routes will be affected by this disruption:

  • Between Leeds and Knottingley via Castleford. Services will be diverted via Wakefield Westgate and not call at Woodlesford, Castleford and Glasshoughton or cancelled, in both directions

  • Between Leeds and Sheffield via Barnsley. Services will be diverted via Wakefield Westgate and not call at Normanton, Castleford and Woodlesford or cancelled, in both directions

Northern services between Leeds and Sheffield via Moorthorpe are not affected.

Northern services between Leeds and Knottingley via Outwood may also be affected by this issue.

You should continue your journey using the alternative suggestions below.

You can travel on the following train operators and routes at no extra cost:

  • CrossCountry services between Leeds and Sheffield, in both directions

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Replacement transport:

Road transport has been arranged to run as follows:

  • 06:55 Wakefield Kirkgate to Leeds via Castleford

  • 07:00 Leeds to Knottingley via Castleford

Road transport is operated by J&B Travel.

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick-up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on road transport.

Journey times may be extended by up to 30 minutes whilst travelling by road transport.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

Trains are unable to run between Huddersfield and York via Castleford in both directions.

Trains are still able to run between Huddersfield and York via Leeds.

Rail replacement buses:

A rail replacement bus will operate between Huddersfield and Castleford, calling at Mirfield, Wakefield Kirkgate and Normanton for one run.

Hourly buses will operate between Huddersfield and York, calling at Mirfield, Wakefield, Normanton and Castleford.
