Description

Following a fault on a train between Bolton and Preston, all lines have now reopened. As service recovers, trains running between these stations may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 50 minutes or diverted.

Disruption is expected until 18:00.

Customer advice:

Train services are now able to run between Bolton and Preston.

Services on the following routes are returning to normal but may still be delayed or cancelled.

  • Between Manchester Airport and Barrow-In-Furness.

  • Between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North.

  • Between Manchester Airport and Windermere.


What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination via Bolton, Blackburn and Wigan Wallgate where available.

You can use your ticket at no extra cost on TransPennine Express services on any reasonable route.

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption – please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Road transport has been confirmed to run as follows:

At 17:00 from Bolton to Preston, calling at Lostock, Horwich Parkway, Blackrod, Adlington (Lancashire), Chorley, Buckshaw Parkway, Leyland and Preston - operated by Bestway.

Journey times may be extended by up to 60 minutes whilst travelling by road transport.
